SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson sophomore Richard Fountain has been selected as the Southern Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for all competition from February 22-28.
Fountain earned his second consecutive top-five finish individually, leading Davidson to a seventh-place finish at 886 (296-294-296) Monday in a competitive field at UNC Wilmington's Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall.
After starting with a three-under par 69 in round one, the sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., fired his second consecutive even-par round of 72 on Monday on the 6,946-yard Nicklaus Course, finishing at three-under-par with 213 strokes (69-72-72) to tie with Thomas Birdsey of Wake Forest for fourth place. Fountain was the top SoCon finisher in the tournament which featured 6 top-100 ranked teams.
Other top performers this week were Neil Gowan (College of Charleston), Scott Wolfes (Georgia Southern) and Colin Chapman (UNCG).
