Mocs Head into Final Round in Third at Seahawk Intercollegiate
Stephan Jaeger is tied for fourth after rounds of 73 and 69
WILMINGTON, N.C. --- The 22nd-ranked Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is third after 36 holes at the Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall. UTC is 10 shots off the pace set by East Carolina.
The Mocs started slow with a 12-over par 300 in the opening round. They followed that with an even-par 288, which was the third lowest round of the day. UTC limped out of the gates at 13-over par through four holes. It played one-under on the last 32 holes.
Senior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) is tied for fourth at two-under par 142. He played his first 18 at one-over 73 before firing a three-under par 69 in round two. The Ben Hogan Award candidate is three shots shy of leader Wesley Bryan of South Carolina at five under.
Steven Fox (Nashville, Tenn.) is tied for 12th at 146 (+2). He tied Jaeger with a 73 in round one before shooting the same score the second time around. Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) is tied for 19th at 149 (+5). He bounced back from a 77 with a level-par 72.
Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) and Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) each matched Robb's 77 in the first 18. Johnston is tied for 28th after a 74 on his second 18 puts him at 151. Welguni is tied for 41st at 155.
East Carolina shot the low round of the day with a six-under par 282 after opening with a 296. The Pirates (578) lead Wake Forest by six at 584 with UTC in third.
Tomorrow's final round starts at 8:42 a.m. Weiguni leads off for the Mocs at 9:45 a.m., trailed by Johnston, Robb, Fox and Jaeger. The Mocs are paired with ECU and Wake Forest.

Fountain, Davidson Golf Near Top of Leaderboard In Competitive Field at Seahawk Intercollegiate
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Sophomore Richard Fountain sits two strokes off the lead individually, and he and his Davidson teammates are fourth (590), three strokes ahead of 31st-ranked Liberty through the first two rounds of UNC Wilmington's Seahawk Intercollegiate, completed Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall.
Fountain shot a three-under-par 69 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second to finish the day on the 6,946-yard Nicklaus Course with 141 strokes, tied with Lee Bedford of Wake Forest for second place. Wesley Bryan of South Carolina is first at 139 (68+71), five-under-par, while Fountain and Bedford are one stroke ahead of Stephan Jaeger (Chattanooga) and Caleb Sturgeon (South Carolina). Jaeger, the two-time defending Southern Conference Player of the Year is ranked 10th in the nation in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin player rankings and is on the Ben Hogan Award Watch List.
The Wildcats (No. 117) are the lone team not ranked in the Top 100 of the Golfweek/Sagarin team rankings presently amongst the top-seven teams in the 12-team field. East Carolina (No. 51) leads at 578 (296+282), two-over-par by six strokes over second-place and 45th-ranked Wake Forest (584, +8). Davidson's lone Southern Conference rival in the field, 26th-ranked Chattanooga, is just two strokes ahead in third at 588 (300+288).
The ‘Cats were consistent, combining to fire a first-round 296 and a second-round 294. South Carolina (No. 78) trails by one stoke in fifth (591), while 31st-ranked Liberty and 88th-ranked UNCW are tied for sixth at 593.
Junior John Skeadas also had a strong outing for Davidson, finishing the day in a tie for 12th with a two-round score of 146 (75+71), two-over-par. Sophomore Sam Echikson fired a pair of 75's to place in a tie for 23rd (150), while freshman Ralph Blasey rounded out the scoring group at 153 (77+76) in a tie for 36th place.
Davidson will being teeing off for the third and final round at 9 a.m. Monday.
Reeves Leads Furman In Opening Round Of John Hayt Intercollegiate
Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. -- Senior Austin Reeves (+3) carded a first round 75 to lead Furman (+18) into 12th place on Sunday morning in the John Hayt Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,977-yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The Greenville, S.C., native notched two birdies while shooting a one-over 37 on the back nine and two-over 38 on the front to move into a share of 24th place after 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament. Fellow senior Matt Broome (+4) birdied three of his final four holes to grab a share of 30th place at four-over 76 and junior Matt Brown (+5) posted a first round 77 to hold 40th place.
UCF (+6) took a one-stroke lead of Tennessee (+7) and two-stroke advantage over third place Coastal Carolina (+8) on Sunday. Furman, in 12th, is 12 strokes off of the lead in a 15-team field that includes nine of the top 50 teams in the nation.
LSU's Sang Yi fired a first round 67 to grab a one-stroke lead over a group of three golfers tied for second at four-under par. A total of 11 golfers shot par or better during first round play.
Round two of the John Hayt Intercollegiate is set for Monday morning with Furman scheduled to tee-off from the back nine beginning at 8:45. Final round action is slated for Tuesday.

GSU Golf Finishes First Day of John Hayt Invitational
Ponte Verda, Fla. - After the first day of the John Hayt Invite, the Georgia Southern Golf team is sitting in 15th place. After day one, UCF leads the field with 294 strokes, shooting six over 74. The Eagles shot 316 for the first round, 28 over 74.
Leading the way for Georgia Southern is Scott Wolfes (St. Simons Island, Ga.). Wolfes is tied for 24th, shooting a 75 and three over par. Following Wolfes is Drew Guffey (Bartow, Fla.) who is tied for 54th shooting a 79 (plus seven). Zach Hartman (St. Simons Island, Ga.) ,Hayden Anderson (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Blake Olson (Pensacola, Fla.) round out the scoring for the Eagles, shooting plus eight, plus ten and plus eleven, respectively.
Playing individually, Matthew Mierzejewski (Alpharetta, Ga.) is tied for 30th. Mierzejewski shot a 75 for the day, and is sitting at three over.
Day two of play is set to begin Monday morning at 8 a.m. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday.
