ST. GEORGE, UTAH - Sophomore Parker Allen shot a 1-under 71 and finished tied for ninth-place individually to lead the College of Charleston men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational.
The Cougars shot rounds of 292 (+4) and 291 (+3) to finish at 583 (+7) and eight shots back of tournament winner Cal State Fullerton. Allen shot rounds of 73-71=144 (E), four shots back of individual medalist Chris Russo from Cal State Northridge.
Senior Henry Smart finished tied for 15th place after rounds of 74-72=146 (+2). Freshman Shane Rogan rebounded from his opening round 76 to shoot 72 for the final round.
"This was a good opening tournament for us," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We still have some work to do to get to where we need to be. We didn't score well enough on the par five's to win this week. I look forward to getting back to practice and getting ready for a great field in our home tournament at Stono Ferry in two weeks."
The Cougars will compete next Feb. 27-28 as they host the Charleston Shootout at their home course, The Links at Stono Ferry.
