Wofford finishes fourth at Cobra PUMA Invitational

MIROMAR LAKES, Fla. – The Wofford men’s golf team finished the Cobra PUMA Invitational in fourth place with a 54-hole score of 861 at the par-72, 7,372 yard Miromar Lakes Golf Club.

The Terriers opened play with a 288 and followed with a 290 on day one of the tournament. Wofford came out in the final round and shot a 283, the second-lowest team score on the day.

Florida Gulf Coast won the event with an 837, while Penn State took second with an 856. Bethune-Cookman finished in third with an 857 followed by Wofford in fourth and Florida Atlantic in fifth with an 865.

Cory Taylor paced the Terriers with a ninth-place finish after rounds of 70, 72 and 70 for a 212. Chandler Brazeal finished in 11th with a 73-71-70=214, while Brent McKenzie ended the tournament with a 72-73-72=217. Charles Moore entered the clubhouse with a 73-74-73=220, and Brannan Hudson signed his scorecard with a 78-78-71=227.

Florida Gulf Coast’s Edward Figueroa took the top individual spot with a 70-66-64=200.

Wofford will tee off again in the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on Oct. 15 for its next tournament.

Appalachian State in sixth at CSU Invitational

CLEVELAND – Appalachian State University’s men's golf team kicked off day one of the CSU Invitational hosted by Cleveland State with 36 holes Monday. The Mountaineers carded a 306-305=611 (+35) to stand in sixth place heading into Tuesday's final round.

Senior Josh Nichols led the way for App State shooting a 73-73=146 (+2), putting him in a tie for fourth after round two. Jay Brown finished day one in 29th with a final score of 77-78=155 (+11) after 36 holes.

Daniel Walsh and Casey Komline are tied for 36th. Walsh finished the afternoon with a 79-78=157 (+13) and Kolmine had a 77-80=157 (+13), while Andrew Furr rounded out the Apps’ roster tied for 49th with an 83-76=159 (+15).

Oakland leads the tournament after day one with a 291-292=583 (+7), while Cleveland State follows seven strokes behind with a 297-293=590 (+14). Oakland's Mark Foster leads the field with a 73-70=143 (-1) after day one, while Oakland's Evan Bowser and Wright State's Cody Fixari are tied for second.

Teams return to the Canterbury Golf Club on Tuesday morning for the final round.
