Davidson, Skeadas in
first at Waterville Collegiate
WATERVILLE, Ireland –
The Davidson golf team got its fall break off to a strong start as John
Skeadas and the Wildcats sit in first place following round one of the
Waterville Collegiate Classic hosted by Rutgers University.
The 36-hole event is being played on the par-72 Waterville
Golf Links layout.
Skeadas opened with a 3-over 75 and will enter the final
round one stroke ahead of his teammate Sam Echikson, who is alone in second
place.
Coming off a third-place finish at The Firestone
Invitational, Davidson carded a 312 (+24) and is five strokes clear of
second-place Richmond (317). The host Scarlet Knights are currently tied for
third with Washington & Jefferson following a 334.
The Wildcats’ Richard Fountain is tied for 10th,
just five off the pace, while Todd Eckstein shot 81 and Ralph Blasey recorded
an 83.
Also competing for the Wildcats as individuals are David
Sargent (T-10th) and Alex Nianouris (T-16th), who carded rounds of 80 and 83,
respectively.
The second and final round will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Georgia Southern
leads AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
DULUTH, Ga. – Three
individuals are in the top five and the Georgia Southern golf team is in first
place after the first two rounds of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic,
completed Monday.
The Eagles will carry a 12-shot lead into the final round
Tuesday and tee off at 9 a.m. Georgia State sits in second place, followed by
Mercer, Winthrop, Chattanooga and UNCG. The Eagles shot a 1-over 569 as a team.
Scott Wolfes and Hayden Anderson are tied for second after
shooting a 141, while Charlie Martin is tied for fifth after carding a 144.
Will Evans is tied for 13th with a 146, and Matt Mierzejewski shot a 165,
posting a 73 in the second round, the Eagles’ third-lowest score.
The Eagles were in second place after the conclusion of the
first round as Martin and Evans carded 70s, while Wolfes posted a 71 and
Anderson shot a 72. Anderson led the Eagles with a 69 in the second round,
while Wolfes carded a 70. Martin shot a 74 and Evans posted a 76.
Wolfes and Anderson eagled the third hole in the first
round, and Anderson posted five birdies in the second round. Wolfes had three
birdies and two bogeys in the second round for his 70.
Evans birdied a pair of par-4 holes and the par-3 11th but
bogeyed the first hole on the front and the back for his 70 in the first round.
Martin put together a string of five consecutive birdies on
the front nine and birdied the 12th hole in his first round.
Chattanooga fifth at
AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
DULUTH, Ga. – The
Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team is in fifth place after Monday’s 36 holes of
the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic. UTC’s total of 590 is three behind
Winthrop in third and two clear of UNCG in sixth and four in front of No. 7
Georgia in seventh.
Steven Fox led the Mocs with rounds of 71 and 73 for a 2-over
par 144. He is tied for fifth, one shot ahead of Chris Robb, who is tied for
10th at plus-3 (145).
Liam Johnston’s 146
(+5) included a level-par 71. Benni Weilguni and Michael Monroe rounded out the
team scoring at 154 and 157, respectively. Kory Webb shot 156 playing as an individual.
Georgia Southern holds the team lead at 1-over par 569. The
Eagles lead Georgia State (581) by 12 and Mercer (585) by 16.
South Carolina’s Dykes Harbin is the individual leader at 4-under
par at 138. Georgia Southern’s duo of Hayden Anderson and Scott Wolfes are tied
for second at 141 (-1), while Peder Hermansson of Kennesaw State is fourth at
even.
The final round starts at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday with the Mocs
starting on No. 1. Monroe leads off ahead of Weilguni (8:20), Johnston (8:30),
Robb (8:40) and Fox (8:50), while Webb (8:05) starts on NO. 10.
UNCG in sixth at
AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
DULUTH, Ga. – The
UNCG men’s golf team had its best opening day of the 2012-13 season as the
Spartans fired a two-round score of 592 (295-297), to sit in sixth place after
36 holes of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic hosted by Georgia State at
the Berkeley Hills Country Club.
The Spartans lead 10 teams, including nationally ranked
Georgia, with round three set for tee times between 8:10-8:50 a.m.
Freshman Taylor Coalson leads the Spartans in 13th place
individually after carding a 4-over par 146 (72-74). Coalson’s first-round,
1-over par score of 72 was the best of his young career, besting his previous
top mark of 74 shot at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-16).
Classmate Luke Haithcock and senior Robert Hoadley are tied
for 22nd overall after each posted 6-over par 148s. Haithcock carded a 1-over
par 72 and a 5-over par 76 on day one while Hoadley tallied scores of 4-over
par 75 and 2-over par 73. Sophomore Alex Ehlert sits in 38th place after
notching an 8-over par 150 (76-74).
Georgia Southern leads the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
after 36 holes with a 1-over par 569 (283-286), while host Georgia State sits
in second with a score of 581 (282-299). South Carolina’s Dykes Harbin leads
the tournament individually with a 4-under par 138, including firing a first-round
score of 66 before following that up with a 72. Georgia Southern’s Hayden
Anderson and Scott Wolfes are tied for second at 1-under par 141.
Furman in 12th
at AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
DULUTH, Ga. – The
Furman men’s golf team posted a first-round 303 and second-round 306 on the
opening day of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic on Monday to hold 12th
place at the par-71, 6,679-yard Berkeley Hills Country Club.
Senior Anthony Aloi, tied for 31st after two rounds, paced
the Paladins with a 3-over 74 in the morning and 5-over 76 in the afternoon
round. The Plainsboro, N.J., native, who
began on the shotgun start at No. 4, birdied three holes in the opening round
and two during round two.
Fellow senior Johnny Kyger rebounded from a first-round 78
by firing a 4-over 75 in round two. The
Salisbury, N.C., product is tied for 46th after 36 holes.
Georgia Southern (+1) posted rounds of 283 and 286 to grab a
12-stroke lead over host and second-place Georgia State (+13). Mercer (+17), Winthrop (+19) and Chattanooga
(+22) rounded out the top five in the 16-team field.
South Carolina’s Dykes Harbin (-4) took a three-stroke lead
after two rounds on the strength of a 5-under 66 in round one and a second-round
72.
Final-round action begins on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Western Carolina
second at Donald Ross Intercollegiate
MORGANTON, N.C. –
With the 17 teams in varying stages of completion of Monday's first two rounds of
the Donald Ross Intercollegiate, Western Carolina sits in the runner-up
position entering play on Tuesday morning at the par-70, 6,718-yard Mimosa
Hills Golf and Country Club.
A brief rain storm early Monday slightly delayed the start
of the scheduled 36 holes. However, it was enough of a delay to prevent all 93
golfers from completing the opening two rounds of the event. After 18 holes,
the Catamounts were four strokes off the pace set by first-round leader James
Madison (281), with Wofford College one stroke in arrears in third place at
286.
Teams will complete what remains of their second round –
which varies from as few as four holes to as many as 13 holes – before
completing the third and final round. Leader JMU has four holes remaining,
while WCU was just five holes into its second round when play was called on
Monday.
The golfers are scheduled to hit the course at 9 a.m.
Catamount sophomore J.T. Poston is listed as the highest
standing player from WCU after opening with a 2-under 68 to be in the clubhouse
in second place. Poston played the front nine at 1-under with two birdies and a
bogey before dropping back to even with a bogey on the par-4 10th after making
the turn. The Hickory, N.C., native, who is ranked 68th in the country by
GolfStat entering the event, closed his opening round with three birdies and a
bogey among his final five holes to shoot the 2-under.
Through five holes of his second round, Poston was even-par.
Senior Steven Smith is likewise even through five holes
after shooting 3-over 73 in the first round on Monday. He is currently tied for
16th place, countering four bogeys with a birdie on the par-3,
176-yard sixth hole on his front nine.
Rounding out the order for the Catamounts is redshirt senior
Kyle Wilson and redshirt sophomore Collin Witiak in a tie for 28th overall
after posting 2-over 72s in the first round and both at 3-over through five
holes of the second. Senior Trey White is tied for 44th overall after shooting 6-over
76 in the first round, but he has opened his second round at 1-over with a
bogey on the par-4 second hole.
Casey Komline of tournament host Appalachian State is atop
the individual leader board after shooting 2-under 68 over the first 18 holes,
and through the 14th of the second round, he is at 2-under par.
Wofford third at suspended
Donald Ross Intercollegiate
MORGANTON, N.C. –
The Wofford College men’s golf team is five strokes off the lead at the Donald
Ross Intercollegiate through a round and half at the par-70, 6,718 yard Mimosa
Hills Golf and Country Club.
Wofford is in third after an 18-hole score of 286 with round
two in progress. James Madison leads the
event with a 281.
Brent McKenzie shot a 68, while Chandler Brazeal carded a
73. Charles Moore follows with a 71, and
George Perkovich shot a 74. Cory Taylor
ended the opening round with a 78.
Play will resume Tuesday at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of
the second round and the third round of play.
Elon tied for fourth
at Donald Ross Intercollegiate
MORGANTON, N.C. –
After a morning rain delay, the Elon men's golf team got through the first of
its two scheduled Monday rounds and partially completed round two at the Donald
Ross Intercollegiate before the round was suspended for the day. Play will resume on Tuesday with the Phoenix
in a tie for fourth place at +13 in the 17-team field.
Elon shot a first-round score of 293 and was tied for 10th
after the first 18 holes. All five of
the Maroon and Gold's team participants got through 13 holes in their second
round as the Phoenix was at even-par for the round when play was halted.
When play ended for the day, Elon's Jack Adkins and John
Somers sat in a tie for ninth individually.
Adkins fired a 2-over 72 over his first 18 holes of the day and was
even-par through 13 holes in round two.
Somers carded a 76 in his complete round before soaring to a 4-under
through 13 holes in his second round of the day.
Will DiIanni will begin Tuesday in a tie for 16th after he
shot a 72 in round one and was 1-over after 13 holes in round two.
In a tie for 51st is Dylan Morgan. Morgan posted a first-round 73 and is 5-over
through 13 holes in round two. He is
followed by Stuart Kaufman, who carded a 76 in round one and is 3-over after 13
holes in his second round.
Matthew Brady is competing as an individual. Brady posted a blistering 67 in his first
round but is 6-over through nine holes in round two. He will begin Tuesday in a tie for 16th.
Appalachian State's Casey Komline is 4-under entering
Tuesday's competition to lead the field.
The team lead is held by James Madison. The Dukes are 8-over after 32 holes. Just one stroke back is Western
Carolina. Wofford's +11 has the Terriers
third.
Elon and Lynn are tied for fourth at +13 and lead Brevard by
one stroke.
Host Appalachian State is 20-over and in eighth place.
The Phoenix will conclude the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on
Tuesday at Mimosa Hills Golf Course.
Round two will continue at 9 a.m.
Appalachian State eighth
at Donald Ross Intercollegiate
MORGANTON, N.C. –
Appalachian State’s men's golf team ended day one in eighth place at the Donald
Ross Intercollegiate Tournament.
The Mountaineers got off to a late start due to inclement
weather and were unable to finish round two before night fall.
Casey Komline leads the way for the Mountaineers, as he
carded a 68 (-2) in round one and is currently shooting a 53 with four holes to
finish in round two. Josh Nichols follows behind Komline, as he shot a 70 (E)
in round one and is shooting a 57 with four holes to complete in round two.
Daniel Walsh is third for the Black and Gold as he shot a 74
(+4) in round one, while Jay Brown followed closely behind with a 79 (+5) after
round one. Andrew Furr rounded out the scoring for the Mountaineers as he shot
an 81 (+11) in round one.
James Madison currently leads the tournament after posting a
281 in round one, while Western Carolina was four strokes behind after round
one with a 285. Wofford is in third after day one with a 286.
Appalachian State will conclude the Donald Ross
Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Mimosa Hills Golf Course. Round two will continue
at 9 a.m.
Samford 11th
at Jerry Pate National Collegiate Invitational
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. –
Samford posted consecutive rounds of 306 to sit 11th with a
two-round total of 612 after Monday’s first day of the Jerry Pate National
Collegiate Invitational at Old Overton Club.
Zac Hughes leads the way for the Bulldogs with a 36-hole
total of 148. He shot 74s in each of the opening two rounds.
