ERIN HILLS, Wisc. --- Chattanooga Mocs senior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) had a long wait to qualify for match play at the United States Amateur at Erin Hills Golf Course. Jaeger ended his 36th hole on Tuesday at even par only to see the delay of play carry into Wednesday.

That made for a long night as the delayed rounds lasted until close to 2 p.m., local time. When the dust settled, Jaeger was one of 20 players tied for 61st, resulting in a playoff for four coveted advancing spots.

He was one of 10 to par the 10th hole and continue on to the second playoff hole. He was one of six to par the 11th and march on. A wayward tee shot led to a second shot well short right of the green.

Jaeger hit a masterpiece of a shot for a short par putt. Three others - Marty Jeppesen II, David Delinger and Bobby Leopold - joined his at level par advancement to match play as none of the 20 could manage a birdie over the three pressure-packed playoff holes.

He faces Auburn's Blayne Barber at 6:06 p.m., (EDT), in his opening match. Jaeger and Barber squared off twice in stroke play in 2010-11. Barber finished third in the Carpet Capital Collegiate to Jaeger's tie for 15th, while Barber (T9) edged the Mocs standout (T16) at the NCAA Colorado Regional.

The winner meets LSU's John Peterson or Todd Baek from San Diego State. The time for the round of 32 match is currently scheduled for 9:10 a.m. (EDT), Thursday morning, but that assumes completion of the opening round tonight.
