Cougars Finish Sixth at Jim West Intercollegiate
VICTORIA, TEXAS - The College of Charleston Men's Golf team finished with a 306 in their final round and earned sixth-place Tuesday at the Jim West Intercollegiate at the Victoria Country Club.
The Cougars shot rounds of 300-288-306 for a total score of 894 (+30). Louisiana Tech won the tournament with a one-under 863 and CofC was six shots out of fourth-place.
Freshman Parker Allen was the Cougars top individual with a five-over 221 for the three rounds of play. Senior Coy Breen wasn't far back with a seven-over 223.
The Cougar are back in action this weekend as they will compete in the Southern Conference Championships at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

Joye Takes Fourth: Terriers Finish in Fifth at Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Wofford men's golf team moved up to one spot to finish in fifth place with a score of 880 in the 23rd Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational host at The Country Club of Spartanburg, a par-72 6,648 yard course.
The Terriers, whose 279 in the second round of day one was the second lowest team score of the tournament. Richmond, who finished in second with a score of 863, opened the tournament with score 279, tying the tournament record for lowest team opening round score, which was set by Clemson in 1993.
East Tennessee State rallied from down nine strokes after the first day with a 284 in the final round to win the event in back-to-back years. They finished with an 858 over the three rounds and won by five strokes.
On the individual side, Jacobo Pastor, from Charleston Southern claimed the top spot with a 70-69-71--210 to win by two strokes over ETSU's Lucas Armstrong, who carded a 71-70-71--212, and Richmond's Nick Austin, who shot a 67-73-72--212. Wofford's Mark Joye took fourth with a 72-67-74--213. Samford's Bill Nabors (71-70-73--214), Campbell's Vaita Guillaume (74-65-75--214), ETSU's Patrick Spraggs (72-69-73--214) and Radford's Paul Woodson (65-75-74-214) finished in a tie for fifth place. Guilaume's second round score was one shot off of the tournament record low round of 64 set by Bobby Cochran of Florida State 1994. Woodson's 65 tied a tournament record for a opening round score, which was set by Clemson's Danny Ellis in 1993.
For Wofford Joye was followed by Brent Whitehead who shot a 75-70-72--217, and by Zach Capps 77-71-74--222. Chandler Brazeal had his second round and third round score of 71 and 77 counted towards the team total. Brazeal shot a 79 in the opening round to finish with a 227. Charles Moore had his first round score of 78 added to the team's total, fired a 74 in round two and an 80 in round three for a score of 232.
Wofford will close the season at the Southern Conference Championship April 17-19 in Florence, S.C.
Dressel, Norton Lead Elon to Tie for Seventh at Coca-Cola Wofford Invite
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Top-15 individual finishes by both Stephen Dressel and Tanner Norton helped the Elon Phoenix men's golf team to a tie for seventh in the final standings of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational on Tuesday. The Phoenix posted a three-round tournament score of 881 (300-290-291).
Dressel shot an even-par 72 on his final round, giving him a tournament mark of 215 (74-69-72) to tie for ninth among the 79 individuals participating. Over his 54 holes, Dressel tallied 14 birdies and shot one-under on the par-four holes.
Norton posted his second straight round of 71 on Tuesday to vault up to a tie for 15th in the final standings with a three-round score of 218 (76-71-71).
John Somers' mark of 225 (75-76-74) placed him in a tie for 38th. Two strokes back in a tie for 45th was Leif Neijstrom (79-74-74--227). Finally, Jack Adkins tied for 65th with a three-round total of 230 (75-77-78).
Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor took home the individual title after shooting a 210 (70-69-71).
The team title went to East Tennessee State which shot an 858 (289-285-284) to win by five strokes over Richmond (279-284-300--863). In third was Campbell (292-282-296--870) while Charleston Southern (287-291-298) placed fourth and host Wofford (302-279-297--898) finished fifth.
Elon finished one stroke behind sixth-place Radford (289-296-295--880) and even with Gardner-Webb (293-291-297--881). The Phoenix bested SoCon rivals Samford (ninth; 291-289-306--886) and Appalachian State (13th; 292-293-310--895) in the 15-team event.
The Phoenix will get back on the links this weekend as the 2011 Southern Conference Championship gets underway in Florence, S.C. on Sunday.
SAMFORD MEN'S GOLF: BULLDOGS TAKE NINTH PLACE AT 2011 COCA-COLA WOFFORD INVITATIONAL

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Samford University men's golf team closed out play in its regular-season schedule Tuesday with a ninth-place finish at the 23rd Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational being held at The Country Club of Spartanburg. The Bulldogs carded a total score of 306 on Tuesday to close out the 15-team event with a 54-hole mark of 886 (291-289-306).
East Tennessee State turned in the best round of the day Tuesday to rally for its second straight team title at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational. East Tennessee State entered the final round of competition in a tie for second place, but fired a Tuesday-best score of 284 to win the championship. East Tennessee State finished the event with a 54-hole mark of 858 (289-285-284).
Richmond placed second with a three-round tally of 863 (279-284-300), while Campbell (292-282-296=870), Charleston Southern (287-291-298=876) and host school Wofford (302-279-297=878) rounded out the top five at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational.
Individually, Samford's Bill Nabors carded a 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fifth place. The Bulldogs' sophomore from Decatur, Ala., concluded the tournament with a 54-hole score 2-under-par 214 (71-70-73). Fellow sophomore Drew Aimone turned in Samford's second best score of the weekend as he earned a 20th-place finish with a three-round tally of 3-over-par 219 (71-77-71).
The Bulldogs' Casey O'Toole closed out the tournament with a 54-hole score of 229 (74-73-82), while senior Tyler Baird carded a 230 (75-75-80) and Samford sophomore Gaby Hyde turned in a three-round mark of 232 (79-71-82).
Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor won the individual medalist title Tuesday as he closed out the 2011 Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational with a final-round score of 1-under-par 71. Pastor finished the two-day event with a total score of 6-under-par 210 and bested second-place performers Lucas Armstrong of East Tennessee State and Nick Austin of Richmond by two strokes.
The Samford University men's golf team will next be in action Sunday as the Bulldogs begin play in the all-important 2011 Southern Conference Championships which will be held April 17-19 at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C. The winner of the SoCon Championships will earn the conference's automatic bid to the prestigious 2011 NCAA Championships.
ASU Men's Golf Closes Out Wofford Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Josh Nichols (Kernersville, N.C./Salem Baptist Christian) sank 12 birdies over 54 holes to finish 20th and lead Appalachian State University men's golf at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational. Nichols carded an even 73-73-73=219 (+3) to lead the Mountaineers, who finished in 13th place at 292-293-310=895 (+31).
Darren Cook (Boone, N.C./Watauga) carded a 71-72-81=224 (+8) with a tournament-best three eagles to place 36th. He was followed two strokes behind by senior Colin Hobbs (McKinney, Texas/Newman) at 75-74-77=226 (+10) in a tie for 41st.
Senior Dustin Hudson (Hildebran, N.C./East Burke) was one stroke back in 45th place at 73-74-80=227 (+11) and Jay Brown (Stoneville, N.C./Dalton L. McMichael) fired an 81-78-80=239 (+23) for 76th place.
East Tennessee State claimed the team title with an 858 (-6), five strokes ahead of Richmond. Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor earned the individual championship at 70-69-71=210 (-6).
The Mountaineers turn their attention to the Southern Conference Tournament, set for April 17-19 at Florence's Country Club of South Carolina.
