Terriers Go Low in Round Two of the 23rd Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford College rallied in round two with a score of 279, the lowest team score of the day, to vault into sixth place with a two-round score of 581 at the 23rd Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational host at The Country Club of Spartanburg, a par-72 6,648 yard course.
The Terriers 279 was the second lowest team score of the day. Richmond, who leads the tournament a score of 563, opened the tournament with score 279, tying the tournament record for lowest team opening round score, which was set by Clemson in 1993.
East Tennessee State and Campbell sit tied for second with scores of 574, while Charleston Southern is in fourth with a 578. Samford holds fifth place with a 581, followed by Wofford (584), Gardner-Webb (585), Radford and Appalachian State tied at 585, and Longwood rounding out the top ten with a 590.
On the individual side, four players are tied atop the leader-board with a two round score of 0f 139. Jacobo Pastor (70-69), Vaita Guillaume (74-65), Kristopher Gray (69-70), and Mark Joye (72-67). Guilaume's second round score was one shot off of the tournament record low round of 64 set by Bobby Cochran of Florida State 1994. Radford's Paul Woodson, who is tied for fifth (65-75--140) tied a tournament record with his opening round 65, which was set by Clemson's Danny Ellis in 1993.
The Terries, are led by by Joye with his 72-67--139. He is followed Brent Whitehead who shot a 75-70--145, and by Zach Capps 77-71--148. Charles Moore had his first round score of 78 added to the team's total, and Chandler Brazeal had his second round score of 71 counted. Brazeal shot a 79 in the opening round for 150, while Moore fired a 74 in round two for 152 total.
Round two is set to begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Country Club of Spartanburg.
Cougars Charge up Leaderboard
VICTORIA, TEXAS - The College of Charleston Men's Golf team shot the second best round of the day as they climbed their way up the leaderboard into third place Monday at the Jim West Intercollegiate.
The Cougars shot an even-par 288, led by senior Coy Breen, who fired a two-under 70, with birdies on two of his last three holes. Breen is tied for fourth-place individually at an even-par 144.
Sophomore John Duke Hudson also shot under par with a one-under 71 in the second round.
The Cougars started the day in seventh-place, but are now looking up at two teams as Louisiana Tech is the team leader at an even-par 576 and Southeastern Louisiana is at 578. CofC sits in third-place with a 12-over 588.
CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said he was pleased with how his team played today.
"I'm very excited about how we played during the second round," McEntire said. "We finally had multiple players putting it together at the same time, which is what we need to do to be successful."
The Cougars will tee off tomorrow at 8:30 AM on the first four holes in a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available via golfstat.com

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Samford University men's golf team turned in two of its best rounds of the 2011 campaign Monday as the Bulldogs tallied a 36-hole score of 580 (281-289) on the opening day of play at the 23rd Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational being held at The Country Club of Spartanburg.
Samford's stellar two-round tally was good enough to move into fifth place amongst the talent-laden 15-team field. The Bulldogs opened Monday's competition with an 18-hole score of 291 and then closed out the day with an even better mark of 289.
Heading into Tuesday's final round of competition, Samford is only six strokes out of second place and 17 strokes behind tournament-leader Richmond, which completed the opening 36 holes of play with a score of 563 (279-284). Defending champion East Tennessee State and Campbell are both tied for second place at 574, while Charleston sits in fourth place at 578 (287-291).
Individually, Samford's Bill Nabors carded a two-round score of 3-under-par 141 to finish Monday in a tie for eighth place. The Bulldogs' talented sophomore from Decatur, Ala., opened the tournament with a first-round mark of 1-under-par 71 and then topped that round with a 2-under-par 70 in the final 18 holes of play.
Samford's Casey O'Toole posted a two-round mark of 3-over-par 147 (74-73), while fellow sophomore Drew Aimone carded a 36-hole score of 148 (71-77). Rounding out the Bulldogs' scoring Monday were Gabe Hyde (79-71=150) and Tyler Baird (75-75=150).
Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor, Campbell's Vaita Guillaume, Gardner-Webb's Kristopher Gray and Wofford's Mark Joye are all tied for the lead in the individual standings with identical scores of 5-under-par 139 following the opening two rounds of competition.
Play in the 23rd Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational will resume Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) as the Samford University men's golf team is scheduled to begin its third-and-final round of play at The Country Club of Spartanburg with a shotgun start.
Dressel 15th, Elon 11th After Two Rounds at Coca-Cola Wofford Invite
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Stephen Dressel carded a three-under 69 on his final 18 holes of the day to finish the first two rounds of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational with a score of 143 (74-69) to rank in a tie for 15th individually and help lead the Elon Phoenix men's golf team to 11th place entering Tuesday's final round. The Phoenix fired a two-round mark of 590 (300-290).
Over his two rounds, Dressel tallied nine birdies and was even on the par-four holes.
Tanner Norton, who recorded two eagles over his 36 holes, shot a 147 (76-71) to sit in a tie for 27th with a round to play. He is followed by John Somers who carded a 151 (75-76) to tie for 50th in the field of 79 individuals.
In a tie for 57th is Jack Adkins who posted a score of 152 (75-77) while Leif Neijstrom's 153 (79-74) sits in a tie for 64th.
A four-way tie at 139 leads the individual field as Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor, Campbell's Vaita Guillaume, Gardner-Webb's Kristopher Gray and Wofford's Mark Joye all tallied that score over two rounds.
The 15-team field is led by Richmond which carded a 563 (279-284) on Monday. The Spiders hold an 11-stroke edge over both East Tennessee State (289-285--574) and Campbell (292-282--574) entering Tuesday's final 18 holes. Charleston Southern (287-291--578) and Samford (291-289--580) complete the top five.
The Phoenix currently leads Stetson (299-292--591) by one stroke. Elon also sits ahead of USC Upstate (299-296--595), Presbyterian (291-306--597) and High Point (304-301--605).
The final round will get underway at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at The Country Club of Spartanburg.
