Three in Top Ten Lead Chattanooga to First Place Tie

Chattanooga Tied for First with No. 4 Alabama after Round 1 at Linger Longer Invitational

Mocs paced by three in top 10 led by Stephan Jaeger and Benni Weilguni's twin three-under par 69s

GREENSBORO, Ga.---The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga got off to a strong start with a four-under par 284 to open the Linger Longer Invitational on the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation.  Chattanooga is tied for first with No. 4 Alabama as they lead No. 15 Stanford (289, +1) by five strokes.

Junior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) and freshman Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) each carded rounds of three-under par 69 to lead the Mocs.  The duo combined for nine birdies and 24 pars, against just three birdies.  They are tied for second overall.

Sophomore Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was solid with an even-par 72 to give Chattanooga three in the top 10.  Fox is tied for ninth after three birdies and three bogeys were balanced by 12 pars on his card.

Freshman Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) rounded out the team scoring at 74 (+2) including a key birdie on 18.  Freshman Davis Bunn had the drop score of 76 (+4).

No. 13 Georgia and Kennesaw State are tied for fourth at 291 (+3).  Charlotte is 11 back in sixth at 295, while Florida State, 2010 national semi-finalist, is seventh at 296.

Alabama's Cory Whitsett is the individual leader after a sparkling eight-under par round of 64.  Jaeger and Weilguni are tied with four others at 69.  Fox is tied with seven in ninth at level par, 72.

Aloi Paces Paladins In Opening Round Of Linger Longer Invitational

Greensboro, Ga. - Junior Anthony Aloi posted an even-par 72 to lead the Furman men's golf team to a first round 307 on Sunday in the Linger Longer Invitational at the par-72 Reynolds Plantation-Great Waters Golf Course.

Aloi, a native of Plainsboro, N.J., notched a birdie on both the front nine and back nine while tallying only two bogeys to grab a share of ninth place after 18 holes.  He enters the second round eight strokes behind tournament leader Cory Witsett of Alabama who blistered the Great Waters Course with an opening round 64.

Furman's 19-over 307  put the Paladins 23 strokes off of the pace set by first round leaders Chattanooga (-4) and Alabama (-4) on Sunday.  Stanford (+1) holds third place while Kennesaw State (+3) and Georgia (+3) are tied for fourth.

The Paladins are set to tee-off from No. 10 beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Monday with final round action slated for Tuesday.

Cougars Finish First Round at Hootie

AWENDAW, S.C. - Junior Seth Stuart fired an even-par 71 to lead the College of Charleston Men's Golf team in the first round of the Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Cougars are tied for 14th after the first of three days of competition.

Stuart, a native of Austin, Texas, had four birdies and is just four shots back of first-round leader Blayne Barber of Auburn.

Wake Forest, a team that the Cougars beat in their last tournament are the leaders after a four-under 280 score.

The elite field of teams battled windy and rainy conditions, but played tough and completed their first round.

"I'm very pleased with the way Seth played today," said CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire "As a team our goal was to eliminate big numbers. We are improving but we need to do better tomorrow."
