Virginia Tech, Kennesaw State Share Furman Intercollegiate Lead After Two Rounds
Greenville, S.C. - The Virginia Tech Hokies posted a one-under par 287 on Saturday to pull into a first place tie with Kennesaw State at four-under 572 after two rounds of the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Club.
Garland Green fired a four-under 72 to help the Hokies (-4) pull even with Owls (-4) while Ben Greene led Kennesaw State to a second round 290 with a two-under par 70. Clemson (E) is in third place just four strokes behind the leaders with East Carolina (+3) and Purdue (+7) rounding out the top five. Gardner-Webb and Furman (+8) are tied for sixth place after 36 holes.
First round leader William Sjaichudin (65-69=134) of Purdue maintained the tournament lead with a three-under par 69 on Saturday to move to 10-under for the weekend. East Carolina's Harold Varner (67-70=137) is three stroke back in second place with Green (71-68=139) holding third place.
Four Paladins recorded rounds of 73 or better on Saturday to help Furman (296-288=584) move from seventh place to sixth place. Matt Brown (-1) led the charge with a one-under 71 while Matt Broome and Johnny Kyger each shot 72. J.B. Murphy (-3), playing as an individual, posted a 67 to grab a share of seventh place.
Final round action is slated to tee-off on Sunday at 8 a.m. Furman will tee-off of No. 10 beginning at noon while the tournament leaders will tee-off from No. 1 beginning at 1:10 p.m.

Chattanooga Moves Up to 8th at Furman Intercollegiate
Stephan Jaeger's three-under par 69 led the Mocs to low round of the day at 286 (-2)
GREENVILLE, S.C.---The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team turned in the low round of the day shooting two-under par 286 Saturday at Furman Golf Club. That gave Chattanooga a 36-hole total of 589 which is eighth overall.
Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) shot a three-under par 69 to lead the charge. He birdied four of the first five holes en route to his 13th career round in the 60s.
He wasn't alone under par as Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) finished strong firing one under, 71. Weilguni birdied 15, 17 and 18, while nearly driving the green on 18. Weilguni and Jaeger each recorded five birdies on their rounds.
Virginia Tech and Kennesaw State are tied for the lead at 572 (-4). Clemson is third at even-par 576, with East Carolina in fourth at 579.
Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounded out the counting scores at one-over par 73 each. Fox's round included two birdies and 13 pars, while Bunn got off to a great start reaching minus four before bogeys on five of the final seven holes.
Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) posted four birdies on his round of 74 (+2). He was slowed by two double bogeys on six and 12, but played the final six holes at two under to finish at two over.
Individuals Simon Forsslund (Stockholm, Sweden) and Jackson Lockhart (Brownsboro, Ala.) also played in the morning round. Forsslund started on the back nine and was five over through eight holes. He played the last 10 at minus two to shoot 75 (+3). Lockhart had a 79 while also starting on the harder back side.
Purdue's William Sjachudin leads the medalist chase at 10-under par, 134, after a 69 (-3) in the afternoon. Harold Varner (ECU) is three shots back in second at seven under, while Garland Green (Virginia Tech) is third at 139 (-5).
The Mocs tee off at Noon Sunday off of No. 10. Robb leads off followed by Fox (12:10), Bunn (12:20), Weilguni (12:30) and Jaeger (12:40). Forsslund and Lockhart also start off at Noon on No. 1.

WCU Men's Golf Tied for 15th at Furman Intercollegiate
Catamounts shoot best round of spring season to advance in standings
Greenville, S.C. - Western Carolina men's golf team combined to shoot its lowest round of the spring season, firing a six-over 294 on Saturday to move into a tie for 15th place after 36-holes at the Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Club.
WCU freshman Jack Walsh trimmed eight strokes off his opening round to card a career-low, four-under 68 in the second round to advance into a tie for 14th overall to lead the Catamounts with an even-par 144 through two rounds.
Saturday's second round was suspended from 3:17 pm until 4:45 pm due to lightning and heavy rain in the Upstate of South Carolina.
The Catamounts will tee off on the first hole first thing Saturday morning as WCU has the 8:00 am tee time, paired with golfers from Southern Conference foe, Samford, and former conference member Marshall. Fans can follow with live results online at www.GolfStatResults.com.
First-round team leader Kennesaw State is tied with Virginia Tech after the Hokies shot three-strokes better than the Owls in the second round, knotted at four-under 572 atop the leader board. Clemson stand third, four strokes off the pace at even-par 576, followed by East Carolina (579) in fourth and Purdue (583) in fifth.
William Sjaichudin of Purdue continues to lead, following his opening round seven-under 65 with a three-under 69 on Saturday to lead East Carolina's Harold Varner by three strokes (134-to-137). Virginia Tech's run to the team leader board coincided with Garland Green's vault from 11th into third after shooting four-under 68 to sit five strokes off the pace at 139.
Opening on the back nine, Walsh bogeyed the par-4 13th hole to move to one-over through four holes before responding with five birdies and eight pars over his next 13 holes to finish four-under to pace the Catamounts. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native improved his score on eight of the 18 holes from his first to second rounds.
WCU's first round leader, freshman Collin Witiak, shot one-over 73 on Saturday to stand tied for 34th overall. Witiak countered four bogies with three birdies including one inside his final five holes to lower his score from two-over down the stretch.
Michael Fitzgerald stands tied for 96th (155) after shooting 78 in the second round, while Trey White trimmed seven strokes off his opening round to shoot 75 on Saturday and move into a tie for 106th. White fell to five-over par through his first seven holes, but tallied two birdies and scored par on eight of the front nine holes to record the three-over score. Rounding out WCU's side is freshman Greg Bunner in a tie for 111th (158).
Adkins Goes One-Under, Elon Sits 21st at Furman Intercollegiate
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Freshman Jack Adkins posted a one-under par round of 71 during the second round of the Furman Intercollegiate as the Elon men's golf team now sits in 21st place with 18 holes to play in the 22-team event.
Adkins birdied three holes on his way to his way to moving into a tie for 41st in the field of 124 golfers with a two-round score of 148 (77-71).
John Somers has Elon's second-best 36-hole score, following up yesterday's round of 74 with Saturday's 77 to sit in a tie for 62nd with a score of 151. Clay Holland's mark of 153 (80-73) has him in a tie for 78th with one round to play.
Stephen Dressel is tied for 100th with a two-day total score of 156 (76-80) while Tanner Norton's 160 (83-77) has him tied for 115th.
Purdue's William Sjaichudin continues to lead the individual field, firing a second-round 69 to finish the second round with a score of 134.
Both Virginia Tech (285-287) and Kennesaw State (282-290) have a two-round mark of 572 to lead the field with a round to go. Clemson (287-289--576), East Carolina (288-291--579) and Purdue (294-289--583) rounds out the top five teams.
Davidson Golf Improves In Second Round of Furman Intercollegiate
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Davidson sophomore John Skeadas remains in the top-10 Saturday after two rounds of the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Club.
As a team, Davidson improved on their first-round 304 with a second-round 295 to place in a tie for 11th place in the 22-team field with conference foe Wofford.
Skeadas and senior Jackson Taylor led the Wildcats on the par-72, 6,994-yard course Saturday with one-over-par 73's. Skeadas moved down from a tie for fourth after firing a three-under 69 Friday to 10th at 142. Taylor sits in a tie for 68th (79+73=152).
Freshman Sam Echikson is the second-ranked ‘Cat overall in a tie for 60th-place at 151 (77+74). Senior Bobby Urso bounced back from a tough first round with a three-over par 75. He is tied with freshman Richard Fountain at 156.
