SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State sophomore Josh Nichols has been selected as the Southern Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 9-15.
Playing in a pair of tournaments last week, Nichols finished in the top six in each event, recording the first top ten finishes of his collegiate career.
At the Mission Inn Spring Fling, the sophomore fired a consistent 77-73-74=221 to place sixth, but that was only a precursor to his best work of the week.
The Kernersville, N.C., native opened play at the Don Benbow/North-South Invitational with a school-record tying 65 (-6). His two-day total of 138 (-4) was the second-lowest in ASU history, and Nichols' play led ASU to its first team championship since 2003. Nichols finished the 36-hole event five shots clear of his nearest competitor.
Another top performer this week was UNCG's Robert Hoadley.
