Men's Golf Stands Fourth in Florida
DELAND, Fla. - In the final tournament of the fall, Appalachian State University men's golf posted a solid start at the Stetson/CFSC Invitational with a 301-300=601 (+25) on Monday.
Sophomore John Michael Cole (Fayetteville, N.C./Cape Fear) ranks fifth in the 43-golfer field with an even 72-72=144 (E) through 36 holes. The newcomer carded an Eagle as well.
Darren Cook (Boone, N.C./Watauga) shot a 76-74=150 (+6) to tie in 14th place, while Josh Nichols (Kernersville, N.C./Salem Baptist Christian) ended the day just two strokes back in 18th at 75-77=152 (+8).
Jason Woodall (Yanceyville, N.C./The Elon School) led the entire field with 27 pars to stand in 24th place at 78-77=155 (+11) and Daniel Walsh (Wilkesboro, N.C./West Wilkes) rounded out the Mountaineer squad with an 81-81=162 (+18) in a tie for 41st.
Competing individually, Drew Harris (Lenior, N.C./Hibriten) is tied for 39th at 81-80=161 (+17).
Appalachian is tied with Bethune-Cookman for fourth place, just three strokes behind host Stetson.
Florida Gulf Coast leads the team scoring at 577 (+1), 14 strokes ahead of High Point.
Stetson's Sam Ryder owns the individual lead at 138 (-6). FGCU has two players tied in third place at 142, narrowly edging ASU's Cole heading into Tuesday's final round.
Play concludes on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start at DeLand's Victoria Hill Golf Club.
Men's Golf Holds Seventh After Two Rounds of Amelia National Intercollegiate
FERNANDINA BEACH, FLA. - The Wofford men's golf team sits in seventh after opening two rounds at the Amelia National Intercollegiate hosted at the par-72 7,166 yard Amelia National Golf and Country Club.
The Terriers shot a 307 in round one and responded with a 289 in round two to finish the day at 596. Co-host North Florida leads after a 279-278 - 557. Texas A&M is in second after a 291-279 - 570, while VCU is in third with a 286-286 - 572. Georgia Southern and Troy round out the top five after rounds of 298-282 - 580 and 291-294 - 585 respectively.
Zach Capps had the best finish on the day for the Terriers with a 74-70-144 in a tie for 14th. Chandler Brazeal trails with a 75-71 - 146 in a tie for 26th, while Charles Moore carded 80-72 - 152 in a tie for 44th. Hayes Brown and Brent Whitehead round out the Wofford golfers with a 78-76 - 154 and 85-78 - 163 respectively.
Wofford will tee off at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the final round of the tournament.
Reeves Leads Paladins On Opening Day of Amelia Island Intercollegiate
Fernandina Beach, Fla. -- Senior Austin Reeves (E) fired rounds of 70 and 74 to grab a share of 14th place and help Furman into a tie for 12th place after two rounds in the Amelia Island Intercollegiate on Monday at the par-72 Amelia National Golf Club.
The University of North Florida (-19) posted a first round 279 and maintained its lead through 36 holes with a second round 278. The Ospreys lead second place Texas A&M (-6) by 13 strokes and hold a 15-stroke advantage on third place VCU (-4) entering Tuesday's final round.
UNF's Sean Dale (-7) played the opening 36 holes at seven-under 137 on the strength of a second round 67 to grab the individual lead. Dale's teammate Kevin Phelan (-6) holds second place after carding a five-under 67 in round one and one-under 71 in the afternoon round.
Furman's Matt Brown used a one-under 71 in round two to improve to 44th place while Greg Carrier carded rounds of 77 and 78.
Final round play begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with the Paladins slated to tee off beginning at 8:36 a.m.

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- Elon's Stuart Kaufman finished his two Monday rounds of the Ameila Island Intercollegiate with an even-par 144 (74-70) to sit in a tie for 14th as the Phoenix ended the day in 15th place with a 617 (307-310).
Kaufman went two-over with a 74 after his first round before going two-under with a 70 over his final 18 holes of the afternoon.
Erick Stone's 155 (77-78) has him in a tie for 57th among the field of 84 golfers. He is followed by Tanner Norton who shot a 156 (74-82) to tie for 64th following two rounds of play.
In a tie for 76th with a score of 163 (83-80) is Jack Adkins while John Somers is 79th with a mark of 165 (82-83).
North Florida's Sean Dale leads the individual field with a seven-under 137 (70-67) with a round to play.
UNF also holds the top spot on the team leader board with a -19 557 (279-278). The Ospreys hold a 13-stroke lead on Texas A&M (291-279--570). VCU (286-286--572), Georgia Southern (298-282--580) and Troy (291-294--585) complete the top five.
The 15-team field also features SoCon rivals Wofford (7th, 307-289--596) and Furman (T-12th, 307-301--608).
