Skeadas Leads Davidson Golf at Wolfpack Intercollegiate
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Davidson men's golf team sits ninth at 588 (298+290) through two rounds in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, led by junior John Skeadas Monday on the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State.
Skeadas fired an even-par 71 and a two-over-par 73 to place in a tie for 12th individually and post the ‘Cats' best score by three strokes. Freshman Todd Eckstein sits in a tie for 26th after firing a five-over 147 (74+73).
Sophomores Sam Echikson (35th place, 148) and Richard Fountain (39th place, 149) posted the team's top second round scores with one-over-par 72's.
Memphis leads the 16-team field at 571 (288+283), three-over-par. Southern Conference member UNCG is fourth at 576 (295+281) while another SoCon member, Western Carolina is one stroke ahead of Davidson at 587 (291+296), tied with Richmond for seventh place. Elon sits 12th at 595 (297+298).
Competition in the 54-hole tournament will conclude Tuesday on the 7,358-yard course.
Chattanooga Is Tied for Seventh at Rees Jones Invitational
Chris Robb and Stephan Jaeger are tied for 11th overall at five-over par through 36 holes
DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is tied for seventh through 36 holes of the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point Golf Club. UTC shot 608 and is tied with Michigan State.
Iowa State holds the lead at 594 after rounds of 298 and 296. South Carolina is second at 598 with Wake Forest in third at 602.
The Mocs shot 306 in the opening 18 holes to tie for fifth with Wake Forest, Liberty and Michigan State. Jaeger paced that effort with a 74, followed Robb (75), Weilguni (78), Fox (79) and Bunn (79).
The afternoon was a little better with a 302. Robb and Fox posted 74s, while Jaeger (75) and Weilguni (79) rounded out the counting scores. Bunn's 80 was the drop score in the second round.
Iowa State's Nate McCoy is the individual leader at six-under par, 138. Lee Bedford (Wake Forest) and Dykes Harbin (South Carolina) are second, seven strokes off the pace at 145 (+1).
The tourney completes with a final 18 holes Tuesday. The Mocs are paired with the Spartans and USF.
Norton Paces Phoenix at Wolfpack Intercollegiate
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Elon's Tanner Norton posted rounds of 70 and 77 for a first day score of 147 as he helped the Phoenix (297-298--595) to 12th place after two rounds of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Monday.
Norton's 147 has him in a tie for 26th in a field of 89 golfers. In his first round of the day, Norton compiled four birdies. He added another two over his final 18 holes.
In a tie for 39th is John Somers. Somers carded rounds of 78 and 71 for a mark of 149 at the end of day one and finished with four birdies on the day. Just one stroke back is Matt Brady who is tied for 48th with a score of 150 (75-75). Brady had three birdies through 36 holes.
Blaze DiPasquale shot a 152 (74-78) to end the afternoon in a tie for 56th and also recorded three birdies. Dylan Morgan's 156 (81-75) has him in a tie for 72nd after 36 holes. Morgan posted seven birdies on the day.
UNCG's Robert Hoadley went five-under through two rounds to hold the individual lead with a mark of 137 (69-68).
The 16-team field features four teams ranked in the top 50. Memphis, ranked 39th, leads the field with a two-round score of 571 (288-283). Three strokes back is Louisiana-Lafayette (289-285--574). The rest of the top five consists of 26th-rated Campbell (292-283--575), UNCG (295-281--576) and 27th-ranked East Carolina (295-282--577). Host NC State is ranked 41st and sits sixth with a mark of 584 (296-288).
Other SoCon members in the field include Western Carolina (T7th; 291-296--587) and Davidson (9th; 298-290--588).
The Phoenix holds a three shot edge on Texas State (302-296--598) and also sits ahead of Penn State (297-302--599), James Madison (305-304--609) and Boston College (315-306--621).
The final round of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate will be played on Tuesday.
Poston Second, Kilzer Third to Lead WCU at Wolfpack Intercollegiate
Catamounts stand tied for seventh entering final 18 holes
Raleigh, N.C. - Catamount freshmen J.T. Poston and Charlie Kilzer both stand inside the individual top five to lead Western Carolina at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, hosted by North Carolina State at the par-71, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The rookie duo concluded the first round tied atop the individual leader board, and stand in second-place and tied for third, respectively, after the 36th hole of the 54-hole event.
Overall, Western Carolina is tied for seventh with the Univ. of Richmond at 19-over, 587, in the team standings. The Catamounts were third after the first round of play.
The third and final round gets underway with tee times on Tuesday with the Catamounts paired with golfers from Richmond and Davidson. Fans can follow all of the action with live scoring online at www.GolfStatResults.com.
Poston recorded nine birdies during Monday's 36 holes, overcoming a double-bogey on the par-4 third hole in the first round to fire a career-low, three-under par, 68. The Hickory, N.C., native followed that round with a one-under 70, tallying three birdies against two bogies to match his previous career-low round to be in the clubhouse in the runner-up position.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Kilzer recorded eight birdies - four per round - on Monday to stand amidst a three-way tie for third with Jack Belote of Memphis and East Carolina's Harold Varner. With just one bogey through his first 18 holes, Kilzer followed-up his career-low round of 68 with an even-par, 71, to stand three-under overall. In the second round, he overcame a double-bogey on the par-4 fifth, rallying from three-over with two birdies to make the turn at one-over and promptly moving back to even-par with a birdie on the par-4 10th. A bogey on the 16th was countered by a birdie on the next hole to play the final nine holes even.
UNCG's Robert Hoadley posted rounds of 69 and 68 for a five-under, 137, to lead Poston and the 89-golfer field by a single stroke.
Memphis leads the 16-team field by three strokes over the second place Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette, 571-to-574. Campbell - the highest ranked team according to GolfStat rankings at 26th in the nation - stands third, four-strokes off the pace followed by UNC Greensboro (576) and No. 27 East Carolina (577) rounding out the top five.
Other notables include Golfstat's 41st-ranked team, the North Carolina State Wolfpack, in sixth just three strokes ahead of the Catamounts and Spiders, while Southern Conference foes Davidson in ninth (588) and Elon in 12th (595).
Also individually for the Catamounts, sophomore Jack Walsh posted rounds of 76 and 79 for a two-round score of 155, struggling with two double-bogies in the second round, to stand in a two-way tie for 71st while classmate Greg Bunner shot 156 (80-76) to be amidst a five-way tie for 73rd. Bunner finished strong, though, shooting one-over on the final nine holes of his day.
Rounding out WCU's scorers is freshman Matthew Turner, tied for 87th after rounds of 79 and 83 (162).
The final round gets underway Tuesday morning.
Hoadley leading the way for Spartans at Wolfpack Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C.-UNCG's Robert Hoadley shot a two round score of 5-under par and holds the individual lead after the first day of the Wolfpack Invitational, which began Monday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Hoadley shot a two round total of 137 (69-68) and owns a one shot lead over Western Carolina's J.T.Poston. Hoadley recorded 11 birdies during his 36 holes of play, but also had six bogeys.
As a team the Spartans are fourth in the 16-team field with a total score of 576 (295-281) and trail team leader Memphis (571) by just five strokes. Louisiana-Lafayette (574) and Campbell (575) are second and third, respectively.
Andy Knox enjoyed a solid day for the Spartans, especially during the afternoon round when he carded a tournament-best 66. Knox enters the final round tied for 12th at 144 (78-66).
Colin Chapman is tied for 26th after shooting 147 (73-74), and Alex Ehlert is tied for 39th at 149 (76-73). Roy Dixon is tied for 52nd at 151 (77-74).
The third and final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
