POWELL'S POINT, N.C. -- After shooting its best round of the tournament with a 297 on Tuesday, the Elon Phoenix men's golf team ended the ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate in 16th place with a three-round mark of 910 (303-310-297). The team title went to 28th-ranked Georgia with a score of 834 (271-287-276).
Tanner Norton was Elon's top finisher, placing in a tie for 40th in the field of 90. Norton, who had eight birdies over his three rounds, ended the event with a score of 223 (74-73-76).
In a tie for 65th was Dylan Morgan who shot a 230 (76-78-76). He was followed by John Somers who went one-under on the final day to finish with a 231 (81-79-81). Somers twice eagled the par-four 14th hole during the event and notched eight birdies, six of which came during Tuesday's final round.
Stuart Kaufman, who had one eagle and three birdies for the tournament, finished 74th with a mark of 233 (78-80-75). Jack Adkins' score of 234 (75-84-75) placed him in a tie for 75th.
Georgia's T.J. Mitchell won medalist honors after defeating Robert Karlsson by two strokes. Mitchell shot a five-under 201 (64-70-67).
Three strokes behind Georgia in the team standings was 37th-rated Liberty in the 18-team field. The Flames shot an 837 (281-276-280). Host Old Dominion (289-292-289--870), Winthrop (291-286-296--873) and George Washington (291-291-293--875) rounded out the top five.
