POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- Tanner Norton posted a two-over par 74 to lead the Elon men's golf team on the first day of the ODU/Outerbanks Invitational on Sunday. The Phoenix ended the day with a mark of 303 to sit 15th among the 18 teams in the event.
Norton finished the first round by going one-under on the par four holes and is tied for 34th out of the 90 golfers in the field.
After going one-under on the par three holes, Jack Adkins ended the day in a tie for 42nd with a score of 75. He was followed by Dylan Morgan who shot a 76 and is tied for 55th.
Stuart Kaufman's round of 78 has him in a tie for 69th after the first day. Finally, John Somers, who had one eagle, is tied for 78th with a round of 81.
Georgia's T.J. Mitchell went eight-under with a round of 64 to hold the individual lead through one round.
The Bulldogs also hold the team lead by 10 strokes over Liberty. Georgia posted a 271 (-17) while the Flames went seven-under with a 281. Maryland shot an even par 288 to sit third while host Old Dominion is fourth with a 289. George Washington and Winthrop are tied for fifth with a 291.
Round two will be held on Monday at the Kilmarlic Golf Club.
