Mocs, Jaeger in Second Heading into Final Round
Stephan Jaeger (-4) and Steven Fox (-2) led Chattanooga to second-place after day one at AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
MACON, Ga --- The 24th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is second after 36 holes at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club. UTC is three shots behind No. 10 North Florida with 18 holes to play.
Senior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) is second as well at after rounds of 72 (E) and 68 (-4). The second round four under total was especially impressive as Jaeger circumnavigated the 18 with a spotless card of four birdies and 14 pars. He had just three bogeys on the day against seven birdies and 26 pars.
Junior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) is tied for third at two-under 142 with two 71s (-1) on his cards. He and Jaeger are chasing East Carolina's Harold Varner at minus five, 139.
UTC trailed the Osprey by two after the morning round. Both teams improved in the afternoon with UNF besting the Mocs by one for the second 18 to take a three shot lead into the final round. Georgia Southern is third at 584 with ECU one behind in fourth at 585.
Freshman Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) returned to the lineup shooting 74 and 73 for a three-over par 147. He is tied for 19th. Sophomore Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) is tied for 25th at 149, while sophomore Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounds out the squad in 66th at 158.
Chattanooga also has two individuals in the field. Junior Alex Ratliff (Kingsport, Tenn.) and sophomore Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) are tied for 50th at 153.
The Mocs are off No. 1 Tuesday morning at 9:03 a.m., paired with UNF and Georgia Southern. Bunn is up first followed by Weilguni (9:12), Johnston (9:21), Fox (9:30) and Jaeger (9:39). SAMFORD MEN'S GOLF: AIMONE FIRST; BULLDOGS SECOND AFTER DAY ONE AT APSU INTERCOLLEGIATE
--- As a team, Samford finishes 15-under par in the opening 36 holes of play ---
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. --- Samford junior Drew Aimone completed the opening two rounds of play at the 2011 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate in first place Monday as the Bulldogs' native of Savannah, Ga., carded a 36-hole score of 9-under-par 135 (67-68) at the par-72, 7,132-yard The Links at Novadell.
Aimone helped guide Samford to a second-place position and leads the 93-player field by three strokes over both Anthony Bradley of Austin Peay and Jake Tucker of Troy. Bradley and Tucker finished the opening two rounds of competition with identical scores of 138.
As a team, Samford finished Monday's opening rounds of play with a 15-under-par 561 (284-277). With Tuesday's final round still looming, the Bulldogs only trail host Austin Peay by a single stroke. Austin Peay carded a total team score of 560 (279-281) following 36 holes of action.
Rounding out the top-five teams at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate are Jacksonville State (282-282=564), Troy (290-277=567) and Binghamton University (287-282=569).
Each school in the tournament has fielded a squad of five, with the lowest four scores counting towards the final team total. The F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate consists of 54 holes and will conclude with a final 18-hole round Tuesday. Tuesday's round is slated to begin with an 8 a.m., shotgun start.
The field for this week's F&M Bank Intercollegiate includes Samford, Austin Peay, Belmont, Binghamton, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Morehead State, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Troy, UT Martin, Western Illinois and Wright State.
Samford's Aimone posted a tournament-best score of 135 on Monday, but the Bulldogs' next three performers also turned in cards with under-par scores.
Casey O'Toole, Bill Nabors and Gabe Hyde all tallied identical 36-hole scores of 2-under-par 142, while sophomore William Catanzaro rounded out the lineup with a two-round mark of 149 (75-74). Samford's trio of juniors comprised of O'Toole (72-70), Nabors (74-68) and Hyde (71-71) are all tied for 16th place in the individual standings.
The Samford University men's golf team will conclude play in the 2011 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate at 8 a.m. (CDT) Tuesday as the Bulldogs begin their final round of action at the par-72, 7,132-yard The Links at Novadell.
Broome Paces Paladins At AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
Duluth, Ga. -- Senior Matt Broome carded rounds of 71 and 73 to claim seventh place and move Furman (+18) into a share of seventh after two rounds in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at the par-72 Berkeley Hills Country Club on Monday.
Broome (E), a native of Barrington, R.I., birdied four holes in each round while shooting one-under on the front nine in round one and two-under in round two. He trails tournament leader Harold Varner (-5) of East Carolina by five strokes with 18 holes remaining in the 54-hole tournament.
Fellow senior Austin Reeves jumped out to an early lead at three-under par, but finished at even par in round one before shooting 77 in round two. Furman's Matt Brown (+9), tied for 50th, notched second round birdies at No. 15 and No. 2 on his way to a two-over 74.
No. 10 North Florida (-1) holds a three-stroke lead over 24th-ranked Chattanooga after 36 holes, while Georgia Southern (+8), East Carolina (+9) and Georgia State round out the top five in the 12-team field.
Final round action in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Men's golf eighth after two rounds at AutoTrader.com College Classic
DULUTH, Ga.-UNCG men's golf team is eighth after two rounds of play at the Georgia State AutoTrader.com College Classic, which began Monday at Berkeley Hills Country Club.
The Spartans shot 595 (302-293) and trail overall leader North Florida (575) by 20 strokes in the 12-team field. Chattanooga (578), Georgia Southern (584), East Carolina (585), and Georgia State (589) round out the top five teams. East Carolina's Harold Varner holds the overall individual lead at 5-under par.
Colin Chapman and Robert Hoadley lead UNCG at 1-over par 145, and are in a five-way tie for 11th. Chapman shot 75-70 while Hoadley carded a 74 and a 71.
Alex Ehlert is tied for 39th at 151 (74-77), while Roy Dixon is tied for 61st at 156 (79-77). Andy Knox, who was forced to withdraw after injuring his knee four holes into the first round, returned in the afternoon and shot a 75 during the afternoon round.
The Spartans also had two players participating as individuals. Will Almand is tied for 29th after shooting 150 (76-74), while Alex Simmons is tied for 56th with a 154 (79-75).
The third and final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.

Catamount Men's Golf Second Entering Final Round at Donald Ross Intercollegiate
Jack Walsh leads the Catamounts; Trey White posts career-low round
Morganton, N.C. - First-round leader Western Carolina slipped into second place after 36 holes on Monday at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at the par-72, 6,540-yard Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club. WCU is nine-strokes off the pace and leads the host Mountaineers by one stroke with 18 holes to play.
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning. In unique fashion, all three rounds are being played in twosomes rather than the typical foursomes used most widely in collegiate golf.
Trailing the Catamounts by a stroke after the opening round, Lynn College (568) posted a tournament-low team round of 282 to take a seven-stroke lead over WCU (577) into the final round. Appalachian State is in third at 578 with Presbyterian at 579 and Gardner-Webb at 580 rounding out the top five. The top five teams are all within 12 strokes of the tournament championship with four of the top five separated by just three strokes.
Junior Trey White led two Catamounts in the 60s over the opening 18 holes, carding a career-low round of four-under 68 with sophomore Jack Walsh shooting a season-best, three-under 69. Walsh followed up his first round with a one-under 71 to stand tied for sixth to pace WCU while White - who was tied for third after 18 holes - slipped into a tie for 12th, firing four-over 76 in the second round to be in the clubhouse at even-par, 144.
Freshman J.T. Poston trimmed seven strokes off of his opening-round 77 to shot two-under 70 to move into a tie for 26th entering the final round.
Rounding out WCU's side is sophomore Greg Bunner in a tie for 30th after rounds of 74 and 75 at 149 and freshman Charlie Kilzer (153) in a tie for 42nd after shooting rounds of 74 and 79 on Monday.
Matt Sizemore (132) of Presbyterian leads the individual field after posting consecutive rounds of 66 on Monday. Sizemore holds a slim, two-stroke lead over a two-way tie for second between Lynn College's Marcelo Rozo (69-65=134) and Kristopher Gray (67-67=134) of Gardner-Webb.
Cougars Fifth Heading into Final Round at Ocean Course
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's golf team shot their low team round of the season with an even-par 288 in the second round as they are in fifth-place going into the final round Monday at the Invitational at the Ocean Course.
Florida (-9 for the tournament) shot 12-under for their second round and have a 10 shot lead over UAB. Maryland is 4-over in third-place and South Florida is fourth at five-over. The Cougars are fifth at 8-over par.
Sophomore Alex Ellis led the Cougars with rounds of 72 and 73, including four birdies in each of his rounds for a total 1-over par 145.
Cabe Prieskorn was number two for the Cougars as he carded two rounds at 73, including an eagle on hole 16 in his second round.
Charleston Southern's Jarrett Swan made a hole-in-one on No. 14 with an 8-iron from 152 yards.
The Cougars tee off tomorrow from hole one at 7:30 a.m. for the final round of the tournament.
"We got off to a good starting the morning, but made a few big numbers in the middle of the round," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We fought back and put together a solid second round, which puts up in position to move up the leaderboard tomorrow."

Men's Golf Starts Strong at Donald Ross Tourney
MORGANTON, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's golf used its home course advantage on Monday to card a 292-286=578 (+2) to rank third heading into Tuesday's final round at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate at Mimosa Hills.
Leading the Mountaineer ‘Gold' team, Dustin Hudson carded a 76-68=144 (E) and Casey Komline matched him with a 71-73=144 as the pair stands tied for 12th.
Sophomore John Michael Cole finished the day one stroke behind in 18th place at 72-73=145 (+1) and fellow newcomer Jason Woodall ended the day tied for 26th at 75-72=147 (+3).
Darren Cook stands 42nd at 74-79=153 (+9).
Competing officially as individuals, the Mountaineer ‘Black' team had just as strong of a day. Junior Josh Nichols is tied for fourth at the tournament with a 72-67=139 (-5).
Redshirt senior Lance Wheeler made his season debut with a 71-72=143 (-1), just five strokes ahead of Eric Eberspeaker, who ranks 29th at 75-73=148 (+4).
Daniel Walsh is 32nd at 72-78=150 (+6) and Drew Harris is one stroke behind at 72-79=151 (+7) in a tie for 34th.
Together, head coach Bill Dicus' ‘Black' team tallied a 577 (+1) on the day and would rank third if eligible for team awards.
Lynn holds the overall team lead at 568 (-8), nine strokes ahead of Western Carolina.
Presbyterian ranks fourth, one stroke behind the Mountaineers. PC is led by first-place competitor Matt Sizemore, who turned in a pair of 66-stroke rounds on Monday for a 132 (-12).
Gardner-Webb is also nipping at ASU's heels, just two strokes back. Also representing the SoCon, Elon stands 10th at 600 (+24).
Tuesday's final round begins at 8 a.m. from the Donald Ross-designed par-72 course.
Kaufman Top Elon Golfer on First Day of Donald Ross Intercollegiate
MORGANTON, N.C. -- Sophomore Stuart Kaufman made the most of the first two rounds of his first event of the 2011-12 year as he posted rounds of 74 and 71 to sit in a tie for 18th out of 64 golfers after two rounds of the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on Monday.
Kaufman's 145 helped the Phoenix to 10th place on the day one leaderboard. Elon shot rounds of 302 and 298 for a 600 on the day. There are 11 teams in the field.
John Somers and Tanner Norton are both tied for 34th with a mark of 151. The duo shot identical rounds of 75 and 76 at the Mimosa Hills course.
In a tie for 42nd is Matthew Brady. Brady carded rounds of 78 and 75 to end the day with a score of 153.
Finally, Blayze DiPasquale sits 52nd with a two-round score of 155 (78-77).
Leading the individual field is Presbyterian's Matt Sizemore who tallied two rounds of 66, giving him a 132 on the day.
Lynn leads all teams after day one after posting a 568 (286-282). Western Carolina (285-292--577) is second while host Appalachian State (292-286--578) sits third with a round to play. Presbyterian (294-285--579) and Gardner-Webb (296-284--580) round out the top five.
The third and final round of the tournament will be contested on Tuesday.
Wofford Completes Opening Two Rounds of AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
DULUTH, GA. - The Wofford men's golf team is in tenth place after two rounds of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at the Berkley Hills Country Club Monday with a score of 597.
North Florida holds a three-stroke lead over Chattanooga 575-578. Georgia Southern is in third with a 584 and East Carolina sits in four at 585, while host Georgia State completed the course with a 589.
Hayes Brown led the Terriers with a 75-71--146 good enough for a tie for 16th place. Zach Capps shot a 78-72-150 for a tie for 29, while Brent Whitehead fired an 82-70--152 putting him in a tie for 44th. Chandler Brazeal carded a 71-82--153 for 50th, and Mark Joye ended the day with an 82-78--160.
Wofford will tee off starting at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday morning at hole ten for the final round of play in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic.
