Hudson Completes Day Two at U.S. Amateur
Charleston, S.C. - John Duke Hudson (Sonora, Texas) fired an 83 in the second round to slip to a tie for 108th at the United States Amateur being held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. He missed the cut for match play by three strokes.
Hudson, who shot a three-under par 69 in the first round to sit tied for second heading into the second round, was nine over par total and just missed the cut by three strokes, failing to advance to match play.
After the second round the field was be cut to the low 64 scorers. Six rounds of match play will begin the 25th and will conclude with a scheduled 36-hole final match on the 29th.
Hudson played the 7,742-yard Chambers Bay course for the second round and struggled to find his rhythm, bogeying three holes in the front nine and two in the back. That and four double-bogeys put Hudson 12-over par with an 83 on the day and nine-over after 36 holes.
The U.S. Amateur is the largest amateur golf tournament in the country and features some of the top players in the world.
Bowman narrowly misses cut at U.S. Amateur Championship
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash.- Former Spartan Will Bowman birdied his final two holes, but it was one shot shy as he and sophomore Matt Younts missed the cut at the U.S. Amateur Championship on Tuesday.
Bowman, who finished his eligibility last season with the Spartans, carded a second round 72 on the Home Course Tuesday afternoon and then had to play the waiting game to see if his 36-hole score of 150 was enough to sneak under the cut of 64 players to make the match play phase of the championship. However, it wasnt quite enough to advance to Wednesday.
Younts shot a second round 77 after an opening round 78 to miss the cut by six shots.
