The Paladins’ Daniel Bowden Shot a 67 to Lead by Two

FLORENCE, S.C. ? Furman boasted three of the top six golfers, including day one leader Daniel Bowden, to claim a 10-stroke lead after one round at the 2010 Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship at the Country Club of South Carolina.
Bowden blistered the front nine with an eagle on the par 5 second hole and three consecutive birdies on six, seven and eight to make the turn at 31. The senior recorded two birdies and a pair of bogies on the back nine to close the round at 67 (-5).
As a team, the Paladins shot 280 (-8) with Bowden joined in the top 10 by teammates Garland Ferrell (T-2nd, 69) and Austin Reeves (T-6th, 71).
Georgia Southern, UNC Greensboro and Appalachian State sit in a three-way tie for second place after recording identical 290 (+2) totals.
Another three-way tie exists in the fifth spot with three-time defending champion Chattanooga (295) being joined by Western Carolina and Elon.
Rounding out the field on day one was College of Charleston (297), Davidson (302), Samford (305) and Wofford (305).
Appalachian State’s Casey Johnson carded a three-under par 69 to equal Ferrell in second place while Western Carolina’s Tanner Briele and Georgia Southern’s Ryan Zabroske are knotted in fourth with 70.
Round two of the championship will begin Monday morning at 9 a.m. ET, one hour later than originally scheduled, with results updated every three holes at www.golfstatresults.com.
