FURMAN GOLF TIED FOR LEAD AFTER FIRST ROUND OF LINGER LONGER INVITATIONAL
GREENSBORO, GA. ? Austin Reeves fired a one under-par 71 and the Furman Paladins carded an opening round 293 to grab a share of the team lead with Oklahoma State at the Linger Longer Invitational Friday afternoon at Reynolds Plantation.
Reeves tallied four birdies in his round, including one on the 18th hole, for his 71, good for third place at the par 72, 7,005-yard Reynolds Landing Course. Teammate Garland Ferrell’s 73 put him in sixth, and Anthony Aloi is tied for 11th place following an opening round 74. Daniel Bowden is 18th after a round of 75.
The Paladins’ opening round 293 matched nationally second-ranked Oklahoma State and is one shot better than Alabama at 294. Georgia Tech is seven shots back following at 300, and rounding out the top five is Florida State at 301.
The individual leader following Friday’s round is Alabama’s Bud Cauley, who scorched the field with an eight under-par 64, six shots better than Oklahoma State’s Sean Einhaus, who opened with a 70.

Golf Squads Win University Cup
MORGANTON, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's and women's golf earned a 6-4 decision over Gardner-Webb in the fourth annual University Cup, held Thursday at Mimosa Hills Country Club. It was the first Mountaineer win in the history of the event.
The teams split the side competitions between the men's and women's squads, as the Gardner-Webb men captured a one-shot victory, posting a 286 four-man total (2-under) to beat Appalachian's 287. ASU's women defeated their Gardner-Webb counterparts by 20 shots, 308-328.
In the Cup competition, Appalachian State jumped out of the gate fast, winning the first three matches of the day. Gardner-Webb took the fourth match, but the Apps won match five. Gardner-Webb then came back and took the sixth to pull within 4-2. The Behind senior Jacob Eggers and freshman Yue Xu, the Mountaineers won match seven, shooting the day's best mixed best-ball round, at 65. Darren Cook and Brooke DeHart snuck by with a 70-72 victory to secure the sixth and winning point in the competition. Gardner-Webb finished strong and won the final two matches of the day.
Appalachian's men head to the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. on April 12-13, while the women host the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate in Morganton on April 5-6.
