UNCG's Hoadley two shots back entering final round at VCU Shootout
Manakin-Sabot, VA ? Freshman Robert Hoadley carded rounds of 70 and 69 to sit two shots off the lead entering Tuesday’s final round at the VCU Shootout.
Hoadley, a freshman from Southern Pines, N.C., had four birdies and a bogey in the afternoon round for a solid 69. In the morning, it was a little more of a roller coaster as he had six birdies to go with four bogeys, but came away with a round of two-under par.
Hoadley is two shots behind Wake Forest’s Brendan Gielow, who carded rounds of 70 and 67. Charlotte’s Corey Nagy is third, three shots off the pace.
In the team standings, UNCG is in 10th place with a score of 592. UNC Wilmington leads the team standings at 571, holding a comfortable nine-shot lead over Wake Forest and 10 shots better than Virginia and tourney host VCU.
Tuesday’s final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 am.

Top-Ranked Mocs Finish in 14th
Stephan Jaeger finishes in the top 20 tying for 19th
BREMERTON, Wash.---The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s golf team struggled in its final finishing 14th at the PING/Golfweek Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Club. The top-ranked Mocs shot 314 (+26) in their final round to finish at 917 behind Colorado State (913) and ahead of Indiana (933).
No. 11 Oklahoma State won the event with a two-under par 862. No. 2 Washington came in a distant second, 22 shots off the pace at 884. No. 8 Arizona State came in third at 889.
The Cowboys swept the top three individual positions with Peter Uihlein shooting five-under par 211 with three under par rounds of 69, 71 and 71. Teammates Morgan Hoffmann (213) and Trent Whitekiller (216) came in just behind Uihlein.
Mocs sophomore Stephan Jaeger led his squad tying for 19th with a 54-hole total of 223, seven-over par. Fredrik Qvicker tied for 49th at 231 (+15) followed by Derek Rende at 232 (+16), tied for 51st. J.T. Clendenin came in tied for 63rd at 235 (+19), while Steven Fox shot 240 (+24), tied for 70th.
“It was not the performance we were looking for,” said head coach Mark Guhne. “Success is not always the best teacher so this was a great teacher.
“I believe in this team,” added Guhne. “We just picked a bad week to be off our game.”
Chattanooga returns to the course Oct. 10-12 at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga.
