Wofford Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Sea Trail Intercollegiate
Freshman Mark Joye claims individual title
SUNSET BEACH, N.C. ? Freshman Mark Joye led the Wofford men’s golf team to a second-place finish at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, hosted by Elon University. Joye claimed the first individual tournament title of his collegiate career.
The Terriers finished second behind Stetson University with an 18-under par score of 846 (279-278-289) over three rounds.
Joye, a freshman from Columbia, S.C., secured the individual title with an 8-under par score of 208 (70-66-72). Senior Garrett Medeiros also finished in the top ten with a five-under par score of 211 (69-71-71) to finish tied for fifth place. Fellow senior Mike McKenzie also tied for fifth with a score of 211, carding scores of 72-68-71.
Sophomore Zach Capps finished in the top twenty with a final mark of 216, shooting even par for the tournament while scoring 68-73-75 over three rounds. Freshman Charles Moore finished the weekend with a score of 238 (75-79-84).
The Terriers will compete again October 12-13 at the Davidson College Invitational.
College of Charleston Men’s Golf Finishes 11th at Mason Rudolph
Franklin, Tenn. ? Michael Montgomery (Hilton Head, S.C.) shot a 68 in the first round and a 71 in the second to lead the College of Charleston men’s golf team to 11th at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate held Sept. 25-27 at the Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. Middle Tennessee State defeated South Carolina in a sudden-hole playoff to win the tournament with a 36-hole 556. Charleston finished with a 580.
Mississippi’s Jonathan Randolph earned individual medalist honors with a 131.
Leading CofC was Montgomery, who tied for 10th with his 139. Harrison Moore (Orangeburg, S.C.) tied for 21st with a 142 while John Hudson (Sonora, Texas) tied for 46th with his 146. Cabe Prieskorn (Texarkana, Texas) shot a 153 for a tie at 78th and in 87th was Elliott Lopez (Chapin, S.C.) with a 168.
The Cougars are next in action at the Rees Jones Invitational Oct. 5-6 at Haig Point Golf Club at Daufuskie Island, S.C.

DAVIDSON GOLF PLACES 10th AT MASON RUDOLPH CHAMPIONSHIPS
FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Freshman John Skeadas III helped lead the Davidson golf team past the College of Charleston on Sunday with a final-round 69 as the Wildcats finished in 10th place as the top Southern Conference team in the 36-hole Mason Rudolph Championships hosted at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Wildcats posted a two-round score of 578 on the par-71, 7,100-yard South course.
Middle Tennessee State claimed the men's title with a 12-under 556. The event was shortened to 36 holes after rain washed out competition on Saturday. Eighteen holes were played in the final round on Sunday.
"The course played much tougher today than on Friday, but we were one of the best teams out there today," said head coach Tim Straub.
The Wildcats were one of only three teams in the 17-team field to improve their score on the final day.
Skeadas III shot a two-under-par 69 on Sunday, a five-stroke improvement on his first-round score, to place in a nine-way tie for 30th overall at 143, one-over-par. Junior Christopher Rollins also finished with a 143 (70+73). Junior Bobby Urso was one-stroke behind at 144 (72+72).
Sophomore Jackson Taylor (148) and freshman Walker Allen (151) completed the 'Cats scoring group.
"Overall, I thought we played really well throughout the tournament, " said Straub. "All five guys played solid and had good rounds."
Davidson sat in a tie with SoCon rival Western Carolina in 12th place and two places behind C of C after the first round on Friday, but improved by two strokes to 288. C of C ultimately finished 11th, two strokes behind with a total of 580 (285+295), while Western Carolina fell to 13th at 594 (290+304).
The Wildcat golfers will compete as the host school in their next competition, the Davidson College Invitational on Oct. 11-13.

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. --- The Samford men's golf team carded a third-round score of 294 on Sunday to improve to 15th place in the final standings of the highly-competitive 2009 Sea Trail Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University. The Bulldogs' final-round score of 294 was their best total of the three-day tournament.
"I'm proud of how we played today," said Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks. "We have one of the youngest teams in the nation and three of our five starters are freshmen. It is fun to watch them mature and get better each week, but the upside for this squad is tremendous. Right now, we have the second-ranked freshman class in the nation and we just need to continue to get better as the season goes on."
One of Samford's highly-touted freshmen, Gabe Hyde, finished the weekend with the team's best overall score. A native of Hoover, Ala., Hyde fired a 73 on Sunday to conclude the tournament with a 54-hole mark of 222 (76-73-73).
Junior Martin Bunt and senior Jeremy Cox also carded third-round scores of 73 at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate. Bunt finished the three-day competition with a 224 (73-78-73), while Cox tallied a final score of 225 (75-77-73).
Also posting final scores of 225 this weekend were Samford's true freshmen Casey O'Toole (76-74-75=225) and Drew Aimone (72-76-77=225).
Stetson won the team championship title of the 2009 Sea Trail Intercollegiate with a final score of 841. Wofford finished second in the tournament with a team total of 846.
Wofford's Mark Joye earned the individual title with an 8-under-par 208.
The Samford University men's golf team will next be in action Oct. 19-20 as the Bulldogs head to Savannah, Ga., for the 2009 Georgia Southern Invitational being held at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
Elon Men Finish Tied for Sixth at Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. ? The Elon men's golf team shot a 285 in the final round of the Sea Trail Men's Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for sixth place with a final score of 870. Jayson Judy led Elon in the tournament, placing in a tie for 10th with a three-day score of 212 (71-70-71).
Phil Bartholomew finished the tournament tied for 20th with a final score of 216 (70-73-73) while teammate Steve Dressel placed in a tie for 38th with a score of 220 (75-73-72). Tanner Norton shot a three-under-par 69 on Sunday to led the Phoenix in the final round and finished tied for 48th with a final score of 223 (76-78-69). Scott Hockemeyer posted a three-day score of 232 (79-77-76) to finish tied for 80th.
Playing as individuals, Miller Robins finished tied for 72nd with a score of 226 (75-74-77) while Mike Fekete placed 84th with a score of 233 (74-79-80).
Stetson's Sam Ryder (66-72-71) and Micah Jacobsen (69-72-68) finished in a tie for second with a score of 209 to lead the Hatters to tournament title with a final score of 841. David McAndrew finished tied for fifth (69-69-73--212) and Gabe Costa posted a score of 212 (70-70-72) to finish tie for 10th to help the Hatters.
Wofford's Mark Joye took home the medalist honors with a final score of 208 (70-66-72), guiding the Terriers to second place (846). Garrett Medeiros (69-71-71) and Mike McKenzie (72-68-71) tied for fifth with a score of 211 and Zach Capps placed in a tie for 20th (68-73-75--216) for Wofford.
James Madison finished in third place after posting a three-day total of 859. Mike Meisenzahl led the Dukes with a three-day score of 211 (72-71-68) to place in a tie for fifth.
Campbell finished in fourth place (861) and Belmont Abbey place fifth (863) while Guilford, Elon, Villanova and Murray State all tied for sixth place.
Elon returns to action on October 12 and 13 at the Davidson College Invitational.
Catamount Men’s Golf Finishes 13th at Rain-shortened Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate

Franklin, Tenn. ? Tied for 12th after the opening round, the Western Carolina men’s golf team slipped to 13th in the final standings after shooting a 304 on Sunday at the rain-shortened Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate at the on the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course. Senior Ricky Stout led the Catamounts with rounds of one-over 72 and four-over 75 for a five-over round of 147 to finish tied for 51st.
Saturday’s second round was delayed until Noon before officials at the course decided to postpone play until Sunday with hopes of playing 36 holes on the final day. However, due to the rain-soaked course, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes.
Middle Tennessee State and South Carolina finished tied atop the team leader board with identical two-round scores of 556. MTSU claimed the team championship, though, as the Blue Raiders defeated USC in a sudden-death playoff. Arkansas State finished third, one stroke in arrears at 557, followed by Georgia Tech (559) and Notre Dame (562) rounding out the top five.
Mississippi’s Jonathan Randolph won the individual medalist honors by five strokes over a two-way tie for second between Vanderbilt’s Ryan Haselden and South Carolina’s Patrick Rada.
Behind Stout, sophomore Kyle Wilson placed in a tie for 58th with consecutive rounds of 74 to shoot 148. Senior Tanner Briele was one stroke back from Wilson at 149 (71-78), with classmates Drew Miller (t-67th, 73-77=150) and Benjy Davey (t-83rd, 74-82=156) rounding out WCU’s scorers.
The Catamount men return to action at the Firestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, on October 11-13.
