Greenville, S.C. -- Canadian Brad Revell birdied the par four No. 1 to defeat Furman’s Matt Broome on the 19th hole of their round of 64 match Wednesday afternoon at the 109th United States Amateur Championship at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa Okla.

Broome, a redshirt sophomore at Furman, used birdies at No. 6 and No. 8 to go 3-up through 10 holes, but Revell squared the match on No. 15 before advancing to second round of match play with his birdie on the 19th hole of the day.

A native of Barrington, R.I., Broome earned a spot among the 64-player field for match play after posting rounds of 69 and 74 to finish ninth after 36 holes of stroke play.  He joined fellow Paladin and Southern Conference All-Freshmen pick Anthony Aloi in the 312-player field at the U.S. Amateur.
