ELON, N.C. ? Coach Bill Morningstar’s Elon men’s golf squad announced its fall schedule on Thursday which features six tournaments, including the annual Elon/Sea Trails Intercollegiate.  The fall season begins on September 14 while the final round of play is slated for November 3.  Southern Conference members will host four of the six tournaments in which the Phoenix will participate.

Morningstar’s team begins its year at the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion.  The tournament will be played in Florence, S.C. on September 14-15.  At this event a year ago, the Phoenix placed 13th among the 18 participants.

Up next will be the annual trip to Sunset Beach, N.C. for the Elon/Sea Trails Intercollegiate on September 25-27.  The men’s tournament will feature 20 teams in 2009 after boasting 18 participants a year ago.  In 2008, Elon placed in a third-place tie in the event.

A trip to Davidson, N.C. for the Davidson College Invitational follows on October 12-13.  The Phoenix also participated in this tournament last season, placing eighth.

The Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia Southern will be the next stop of the fall.  That event will be held in Savannah, Ga. on October 19-20.  This is yet another familiar tournament for the Phoenix, which finished 11th in the 13-team field at this contest last fall.

In 2008, Elon tied for sixth among the 15 participants at the ODU/Seascape Invitational.  The event is back on the schedule in 2009 and will be held in Kitty Hawk, N.C. on October 26-27.

The final event of the fall for the Phoenix will take place on November 1-2 in Sapphire, N.C. as Western Carolina hosts The Hummingbird Intercollegiate.  At this tournament in 2008, Morningstar’s program placed fourth among the 14 participating schools.
