TOLEDO, Ohio---Chattanooga sits in a tie for 13th-place with three schools after almost 36 holes of action at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Inverness Club. Play was suspended on Wednesday at 8:50 p.m., with the Mocs quintet having anywhere from two to five holes to play.
The morning wave experienced a 4-hour, 23-minute rain delay as storms beset the greater Toledo area. The Mocs tee time was moved back from 12:30 p.m., to 4:53 p.m.
It was a better run of it on the front nine for Chattanooga today as opposed to the first round. The Mocs played holes one through nine at 12-over par yesterday, but they cut that by four in round two turning at eight-over par on the day.
Ben Rickett has the low round so far for the Mocs. He stands at one-over par through 16 holes after birdies at 10, 13 and 15. Fredrik Qvicker is two-over par through 14 holes. The junior from Stockholm, Sweden had three bogeys and 10 pars along with a great birdie on the difficult seventh hole, the second time in as many chances that he birdied the long par four.
Stephan Jaeger had the shot of the day for the Mocs. Jaeger, the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, reached the par-five 13th green in two with a five iron and holed a 12-foot putt for eagle. He is currently four-over par through 15 holes.
Senior Jonathan Hodge is plus three on their rounds though 15 holes, while Derek Rende is at five over through 16.
The completion of the suspended round is tentatively scheduled to begin at 6:45 a.m. After the final groups finish, the tee times for Thursday’s final round will be tallied. After that round, the top eight teams will advance to match play Friday and Saturday to determine to the 2009 team champion.
Chattanooga is currently four shots behind the eighth-place team, Duke, which has eight to 10 holes remaining, all on the tougher front side. The Mocs are tied with No. 2 Southern California, No. 7 Georgia Tech and No. 10 Alabama.
