Campbell Edges Cougars for CSU Spring Kick-Off Title
Charleston, S.C. - Campbell defeated the College of Charleston men's golf team in the first hole of a play-off to take the Charleston Southern Spring Kick Off Tournament title at Coosaw Creek Country Club in Charleston, S.C. The Camels and Cougars both finished 54 holes with an 892 each to force extra play.
Bethune Cookman finished third with a 902 and in fourth was Stetson with a 906. Rounding out the top five was USC Beaufort with a 909 after the two-day event.
Bethune Cookman's Daniel Venema took home individual medalist honors wit ha 213. Teammate Andy Heeson was second, four strokes behind.
Leading the Cougars was Tim Tang, who tied for third with a 218 after firing a one-under par 70 in the final round. Harrison Moore tied for fifth with a 219 and tied for 14th was Cabe Prieskorn with his 227. Ross Tooley tied for 24th with a 230 and tied for 30th was Soonam Kim with a 232 in 54 holes.
The Cougars are finished with the regular season and travel to Florence, S.C. and the Country Club of South Carolina April 19-21 for the Southern Conference Tournament.
UNCG finishes ninth at Reunion
MADISON, MS ? UNC Greensboro shot a final round 306 to finish tied for ninth at the Reunion Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
Ryan Heisey, Drew Younts and Will Bowman also shot 76 for UNCG, bouncing back from tough rounds on Monday. Kyle Sonday was UNCG’s highest finisher in 22nd place after carding a final round 79 on Tuesday.
Arkansas’ Andrew Landry won the individual title with a 54-hole of 215. He shot a final round 71 to with the tournament by three shots over Vanderbilt’s Adam Hofman.
LSU won the team title at 889, three shots better than Arkansas. UNCG finished the tournament at 927, tying with UAB for ninth place.
UNCG plays in the Southern Conference Tournament on April 19 at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, SC.

Men’s Golf Places Seventh at Charleston Southern
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Appalachian State University men’s golf battled windy conditions to shoot a 309 on Tuesday to finish in seventh place at Charleston Southern’s Spring Kickoff Tournament. The Mountaineers shot 294-311-309-914 (+62) over the two-day competition.
Jacob Eggers led Appalachian with a 13th-place finish. The junior shot a five-over 76 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 72-78-76-228 (+13) and tied for the best par-three average out of the 67 golfers. Eggers scored 10 pars over his 54-holes of play.
Casey Johnson tied for 17th with scored of 76-79-73-228 (+15) while Jake Wiesehan placed 20th just one stroke back at 75-76-78-229 and was the highest-ranked unattached competitor at the event. Johnson was one of four players to shoot an Eagle at the tournament.
Taylor Hines (76-78-78-232) and Dustin Hudson (70-76-86-232) tied for 30th at 19-over par.
Lance Wheeler placed 46th after carding a 77-79-82-238 (+25).
Campbell University defeated College of Charleston in the first hole of a playoff to take the team title at a 40-over 892. Bethune-Cookman swept the top two individual places as Daniel Venema held on to his first-day lead to finish at 213 (E) while teammate Andy Heesom was right behind at 217 (+4).
The Apps are off the course until the Southern Conference Championship April 19-21 in Florence, S.C.
Western Carolina Men's Golf Finishes 10th at Wyoming Cowboy Classic
Scottsdale, Ariz. - Western Carolina men's golf team carded a third round 285 to finish 10th overall at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the par 70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Club. WCU posted a three-day score of 866.
UC Davis won their third-straight Cowboy Classic by 16 strokes after shooting a tournament-record 825. Oregon State was second at 841, followed by UTEP one stroke in arrears at 842. San Diego (843) finished fourth with Fresno State rounding out the top five with a three-day score of 845.
Tanner Briele (73-69-73) led Western with a three-round score of five-over, 215, to finish in a six-way tie for 33rd. Dustin Furnari (74-68-75) and Martin Summer (75-73-69) were two strokes in arrears in a tie for 44th after posting three-round scores of 217. Summer recorded WCU's lowest round of the final day at one-under, 69.
Rounding out WCU's scorers were Andres Cuenca (76, 73, 73) and Kyle Wilson (79, 73, 70) who both tied for 73rd with 222.
WCU will return to action April 11-12 at the Bluegrass Classic, hosted by the Univ. of Kentucky at the University Club in Lexington, Ky.
