Senior fired a career-low 68 en route to an eighth-place finish

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Davidson senior Michael Saari has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 8-14.

 

Saari fired an opening-round 68 on his way to a tie for eighth place out of 87 individuals at the Palisades Collegiate, which was co-hosted by Davidson, Charlotte and Belmont Abbey. The four-under-par 68 was the lowest round of Saari’s collegiate career, and his three-round total of 211 (-5) equaled the Lilburn, Ga., native’s best 54-hole score as a Wildcat. Following the 68, Saari carded an even-par 72 in round two and a one-under par 71 in the third and final round.

 

Saari and the Wildcats will join the other 10 SoCon men’s golf teams at the 2009 Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship which begins Sunday, April 19 and concludes Tuesday, April 21 at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

 

The golfer of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s men’s golf sports information directors.

 

Another top golfer this week was Western Carolina’s Ryan Lanham.
