Junior placed eighth in Argonaut Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina junior Tanner Briele has been named the Southern Conference men’s golfer of the week for all competition from February 25 ? March 3.

Briele finished tied for eighth to lead the Catamounts to a sixth-place showing in the spring season-opening Argonaut Invitational held at the par 72, 6,815-yard Pensacola Country Club. The New Bern, N.C., native fired the Catamounts' lowest round on the final day with a one-under, 71, to move 10 spots in the final standings from 18th after two to eighth on Tuesday.

The golfer of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s men’s golf sports information directors.

Another top performer during the week was Samford’s Bobby Baird.
