AWENDAW, S.C. --- Monday was a lackluster day for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s golf team as it fell to 10th place through 36 holes at the Hootie at Bulls Bay today. The Mocs shot a respectable one-over par 285, but 10 teams shot anywhere from two-under to 12-under par.
UTC’s two-day total of 577 (+9) is four shots behind ninth-place Kentucky (573) at five-over par as the Wildcats shot an 11-under par round of 273. No. 14 South Carolina is just one shot ahead of UK in eighth place (566).
Augusta State shot the round of the day with a 12- under par 272 to extend its first round lead. LSU is in second, four shots back at 564 after a 275 (+9), while No. 18 UCF is another shot back in third at 565 (-3) following a 10-under par 274.
The Mocs staggered out of the gate making the turn at four-over par with just five birdies on the front nine. Derek Rende’s steady play with one birdie and one bogey led the way at level par.
Rende opened the back nine with a birdie on the par-five 10th hole. Another birdie on the par-five 13th moved the junior to two-under par on the day. After following with a bogey on 14, Rende birdied No. 16 on the way in to complete his round at two-under par 69.
Ben Rickett opened with a birdie on one before bogeys on two and seven gave the senior a one-over par 37 through nine holes. Rickett regrouped after a bogey on 10 moved him to two-over par. Birdies on 13 and 16 offset a bogey on 15 to complete Rickett’s card with a one-over 72.
Three bogeys in six holes gave a slow start for Fredrik Qvicker. A birdie on eight gave the junior a little momentum heading into the back nine. Sitting at three-over par through 15 holes, Qvicker birdied 16 and 17 to finish at 72 (+1).
Freshman Stephan Jaeger posted eight pars and a bogey to start his round. A birdie on 10 moved him back to even but bogeyed 11 to fall back to one over. He registered two birdies matched by two bogeys on the back to shoot 72 as well.
Jonathan Hodge’s 76 was the drop score for round two. Hodge was two-under par through six holes before a quadruple bogey slowed the round. After three straight pars, Hodge registered bogeys at 11 and 14 and a double bogey on 13. A birdie on 17 gave him his final score of 76 (+5).
Qvicker leads the way for the Mocs at one-over par (143) for the tournament good which is tied for 22nd. Rende and Jaeger are each three-over (145), tied for 33rd.
Augusta State’s Janne Kaske continues to lead the tournament matching his opening round 67 to stand at eight-under par 134. LSU’s John Peterson remains one shot back at 135 with a 67 of his own. George Bryan IV of South Carolina shot 67 as well to remain two shots back in third at 136 (-6).
The Mocs get an early wake up call teeing off at 8 a.m. from the 10th hole with North Carolina and College of Charleston.

AWENDAW, S.C. -- Augusta State fired a tournament-low 272 to increase its lead after the second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Men’s Golf Tournament being held Mar. 29-31 at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. The Jaguars lead second-place LSU by six strokes with a 558 heading into the final round Tuesday. The College of Charleston shot a 286 today to move up to 12th with a 593 total.
Augusta State’s Janne Kaske shot a 67 for the second day in a row and continues to lead after two rounds. LSU’s John Peterson is just one stroke behind with a 36-hole total of 135.
Harrison Moore and Tim Tang lead the Cougars and are tied for 33rd with a 145 each. Cabe Prieskorn is tied for 55th with a 150 and tied for 68th is Ross Tooley with his 153. Ben Pounds rounds out the Cougar effort with a 168, which is good enough for 74th overall.
Charleston tees off beginning at 8:50 a.m. from hole 10 in third round action Tuesday, Mar. 31.
