Sophomore tied for 11th at the prestigious Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Georgia Southern sophomore Drew Lethem has been named the Southern Conference men’s golfer of the week for all competition from March 18-24.
Lethem paced the Eagles in the 30th Annual Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational over the weekend, shooting a team best even-par 216. Lethem carded his lowest round on the final day with a 2-under par 70. Lethem opened day three with two bogeys only to be erased with an eagle on hole 8 to put him even heading into the back nine where he launched back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 to secure his 2-under par final round. Lethem finished in a tie for 11th place. With Lethem’s help, the Eagles, which currently sit at No. 40 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, placed sixth in the 18-team event that featured 13 of 18 teams which were ranked in the top 50 nationally.
Lethem is the third Georgia Southern golfer to win the league’s weekly award in the first five weeks of the season.
The golfer of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s men’s golf sports information directors.
Another top performer this week was Chattanooga’s Ben Rickett.
