UNCG’s Bowman still first after two round at Palmas Del Mar
The Flamboyan, Puerto Rico ? UNC Greensboro’s Will Bowman holds a one-shot lead after two rounds at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate.
Bowman shot a second round 71 to hold onto the lead he started the day with. Notre Dame’s Doug Fortner is one shot back in second place, followed by VCU’s Mark Jargren in third at 141. UNCG’s Ryan Heisey is tied for sixth at even par 144.
VCU overtook the Spartans in the team standings on Tuesday. VCU carded a round of 280 on Tuesday to take a two-shot lead over UNCG, which shot a 297 on Tuesday. VCU is atop the team leaderboard at 579, followed by UNCG at 581 and Notre Dame at 583.

Wofford Men’s Golf Claims Third at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational
AIKEN, S.C. ? The Wofford men’s golf team improved to finish third at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational, hosted by USC Aiken.
Senior Drew Perry again led the Terriers, shooting a 71 in the third round to place fifth individually. Also finishing in the top 10 was senior Neil O’Briain, who shot two under par in the second round and finished tied for eighth overall.
Following O’Briain was Garrett Medeiros, who tied for 16th with a three-round score of 220. Rounding out the Terrier lineup was junior Mike McKenzie, with a card of 227 over three rounds, and freshman Zach Capps.
Top-ranked USC Aiken won its second consecutive tournament with a victory at the 12th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club.
Liberty finished in second 15 strokes behind the Pacers with a three-round tally of 875 (283-294-298).
The Terriers will next play in the Furman Intercollegiate on March 27-29 in Greenville, S.C.
CofC Men's Golf Finishes Ninth at Palmetto Intercollegiate
Aiken, S.C. - Tim Tang tied for eighth to lead the College of Charleston men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Intercollegiate held March 9-10 in Aiken, S.C. Host USC Aiken won the tournament with an 860. Charleston totaled an 888 after shooting a 298 in the final round.
Liberty finished second with an 875 while Wofford placed third with an 879.
Liberty's Robert Karlsson took home individual medalist honors with a 209, after firing a 69 in the third round. Charleston Southern's Kelvin Day finished second with a 210.
For the Cougars Tang tied for ninth with his 218 total, while Cabe Prieskorn tied for 16th with a 220. Harrison Moore tied for 23rd with a 221 and tied for 56th was Soonam Kim with a 231. Ross Tooley tied for 69th with a 237.
Charleston is next in action when it hosts the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C. Mar. 29-31.
Furman Finishes Fifth At 12th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate
Aiken, S.C. -- Sophomore Austin Reeves (71-75-73=219) fired a final round 73 to secure a share of 12th place and help Furman (294-292-297=583) to a fifth place finish on Tuesday at the 12th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
Junior Daniel Bowden (74-71-74=219) carded a four-over-par 74 on Tuesday to also grab a share of 12th in the 54-hole event. Freshmen Anthony Aloi (75-75-75=225) and Matt Broome (74-77-75=226) each shot five-over 75 in final round action.
USC Aiken (280-293-287=860), the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, took first place in its own tournament finishing 15 strokes ahead of second place Liberty. Wofford, Georgia College and State University and Furman rounded out the top five.
Liberty’s Robert Karlsson (67-73-69=209) captured individual medalist honors on the strength of a final round one-under 69.
The Paladins return home March 27-29, to host the annual Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Course.

SAMFORD MEN’S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT 2009 SAMFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE

ONEONTA, Ala. --- Amidst windy and dry conditions at Limestone Springs Golf Course on Tuesday, the Samford men’s golf team carded a final-round score of 309 to earn a seventh-place finish at the 2009 Samford Intercollegiate. The Bulldogs’ Bobby Baird and Martin Bunt both fired scores of 73 to close out the event with the team’s best scores of the day.
Baird concluded the three-round tournament with a final score of 224 to lead Samford to its seventh-place finish. Bunt, the Bulldogs’ highly-touted sophomore from Pensacola, Fla., turned in a team-best, 54-hole score of 217 to lead Samford’s JV squad to a ninth-place finish.
Murray State led all three rounds of the two-day competition and finished first with a total team score of 859 (288-276-295). Kennesaw State earned second place with an 868 (291-285-292), while Eastern Kentucky claimed the third-place position at 882 (296-291-295).
Clayton State’s Will Wilcox won the individual title on the second hole of a playoff with Murray State’s Cameron Carrico. Both players finished the tournament with a three-round score of 209 as Wilcox fired a 71 on Tuesday to come from behind and force the playoff.
In the playoff, both competitors shot par on the first hole, before Wilcox ended up winning the event on the next hole, the 18th.
Samford’s Bunt earned a ninth-place finish in the tournament and tallied a 54-hole score of 217 (73-71-73). Baird then tallied a 20th-place finish (224), while the Bulldogs’ Ian Cutting (225) and Houston Hough (225) followed in a tie for 26th place. Senior Andrew Villarreal (23) placed 30th with a three-round score of 226 (71-75-80).
The Samford University men’s golf team will next be in action Monday as the Bulldogs begin play in the 2009 Jacksonville State Invitational being held in Jacksonville, Ala.
Johnson Wins North/South Golf Intercollegiate Tournament
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Casey Johnson won the North/South Intercollegiate Golf tournament in a playoff Tuesday afternoon and Appalachian State University golf finished fifth place overall at the DoN Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville Beach.
Johnson was tied for eighth after a first round 68 on Monday, but rallied with a school-record tying 65 on Tuesday to force a playoff with Bethune-Cookman's Willie Mack. After halving the first playoff hole, Johnson knocked home an eagle to clinch the victory as Mack was only able to convert a birdie. The win is the first of Johnson's collegiate career.
Taylor Hines birdied two of his last three holes played to shoot a 69 on the second day and clinch a fifth place finish for the Mountaineers. Hines finished with a two day total of 143, tying for 27th overall and finishing just one stroke behind Jacob Eggers who finished with a 142 and a tie for 22nd.
Darren Cook finished in a tie for 47th with a 148 while Dustin Hudson and Lance Wheeler and Colin Hobbs rounded out the ASU lineup, Hudson shot a 150 and finished tied for 54th while Wheeler and Hobbs finished with a 153 and tied for 61st.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday when they compete in the Geico Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga.
