Furman Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At Aldila Scenic City Invitational
Reeves Paces Paladins With Final Round 70.
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Three Paladins fired rounds of par or better, including a final round 70 by Austin Reeves, as the Furman men’s golf team claimed fourth place at the Aldila Scenic City Invitational at the par-72 Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Tuesday.
Sophomore Matt Broome (70-70-72=212) earned a share of sixth place with a final round 72 while Reeves 973-72-70=215) finished in a tie for 15th place at one-under par. Senior Daniel Bowden (72-72-72=216) played the final 18 holes at even par to share 17th place.
Middle Tennessee State (287-286-278=851) took first place with a 10-under 278 on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders finished three strokes ahead of second place Wichita State and 11 strokes better than third place finisher Southern Miss. Furman (289-286-288), Missouri, Charlotte, host Chattanooga, Iowa State, Kennesaw State and Eastern Michigan rounded out the top 10 finishers in the 16-team field.
The tournament finished with co-medalists as MTSU’s Kent Bulle (72-68-70=210) and Hunter Green (69-70-71=210) shared individual medalist honors with Wichita State’s Dustin Garza (69-68-73=210).
Furman will conclude its fall schedule November 2-3, at the WCU Invitational.

No. 18 Chattanooga Struggles in Final Round
CHATTANOOGA Tenn.---A rainy final round ended sour for the 18th-ranked Chattanooga men's golf team as it shot 307 on the final 18 to shoot seven-over par 871 at Council Fire Golf Club on Tuesday. Co-host Middle Tennessee found the conditions more to its liking shooting 10-under par 278 to come back from a nine-stroke deficit to claim a three-shot win.
The Blue Raiders shot 13-under par 851 after opening with rounds of 287 and 286 on Monday. Wichita State claimed second place at 854 (-10), while Southern Miss (862), Furman (863) and Missouri (868) rounded out the top five.
A trio of golfers shared medalist honors. MT's Kent Bulle and Hunter Green were joined by the Shockers' Dustin Garza at six-under par 210. Southern Miss' Wes Carter and Charlotte's Corey Nagy tied for fourth at 211 (-5). Iowa State's Ben Herrera shot the round of the day with a five-under par 67.
Fredrik Qvicker led the Mocs tying for 13th at 214 (-2). He shot Chattanooga's low final round with a 75. Stephan Jaeger joined him in the top 20 ending up tied for 17th at 216 (E). Derek Rende tied for 21st at 217 (+1) followed by Steven Fox (227) tied for 52nd and J.T. Clendenin (228) tied for 56th.
The Blue Raiders' round of 278 was fueled by four sub-par rounds. In addition to Bulle with a 70 and Green at 71, Craig Smith led the way with a 68, while Jason Millard chipped in a 69.
The Mocs return to action next week at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Sapphire, N.C. The 54-hole event starts on Monday, Nov. 2, ending Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Western Carolina Men's Golf Finishes 13th at Scenic City Aldila Intercollegiate
Seniors Ricky Stout and Drew Miller lead the Catamounts
Chattanooga, Tenn. - Western Carolina closed out the final round of the Scenic City Aldila Intercollegiate with a team 303 to finish 13th in the 17-team field at the par-72, 6,999-yard Council Fire Golf Club. Seniors Ricky Stout and Drew Miller finished tied for 25th and 36th, respectively, to lead the Catamounts.
Stout finished the 54-hole event at two-over, 218, after carding a closing round of four-over, 76, while Miller shot one-over 73 to finish the event at six-over, 222.
Middle Tennessee posted the tournament's lowest team round on Tuesday, carding 278 to rally from fifth place to take the team championship by three strokes over opening day co-leader, Wichita State, 851-to-854. Southern Mississippi finished third at 862, followed by Furman (863) and Missouri (868).
Tournament host and defending champion, Chattanooga, slipped to seventh after finishing the second round tied atop the team leader board.
A trio of individuals including Hunter Green and Kent Bulle of Middle Tennessee, and Dustin Garza of Wichita State each shared the individual medalist honors at six-under, 210. Green shared the individual lead after Monday, while Bulle rallied from ninth-place to share the crown.
Behind Stout and Miller, WCU freshman Trey White finished tied for 52nd with a three-round score of 227. Senior Tanner Briele fired a 78 on Tuesday to finished tied for 71st (233) with classmate Rylan Lanham rounding out the Catamount scorers in 87th (243).
Western Carolina will close the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule by hosting the Hummingbird Intercollegiate next weekend at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley. Practice rounds begin on Sunday, Nov. 1, while the 36-hole event will take place Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 2-3.
College of Charleston Men's Golf Finishes 16th at Aldila Scenic City Invite
The College of Charleston men's golf team shot a 928 to finish 16th at the Aldila Scenic City Invite held Oct. 26-27 at the Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Middle Tennessee State won the event with a three-round total of 851. Wichita State finished second with an 854.
The Cougars fired a 294 in the first and a 303 in the second to sit 13th after the second round, but shot a 322 in the third to slip to 16th.
Wichita State's Dustin Garza, MTSU's Kent Bulle and Hunter Green all tied for individual medalist honors after each carded a 210 in 54 holes.
Leading the Cougars was John Hudson who tied for 36th with a 222. Michael Montgomery and Ben Pounds tied for 78th with a 238 each, while Seth Stuart tied for 84th with a 240. Tim Mitchell withdrew in the first round but played the final two to finish with a 156.
Charleston next competes at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate Nov. 2-3 in Sapphire, N.C.

Phoenix Struggles at ODU/Seascape Invitational
KITTY HAWK, N.C. -- The Elon men's golf program finished its two rounds of the 2009 ODU/Seascape Invitational with a total score of 612 (312-300) to place 12th among the 14 competing schools. Jayson Judy was the top finisher for the Phoenix with a 147 (73-74) to tie for 13th in the 73-golfer field.
Stephen Dressel carded a two-over 72 in his final round on Tuesday which, coupled with his 78 shot on Monday, gave him a two-round total of 150 and placed him in a tie for 22nd. Alex Luxenburg knocked six strokes off his first round 81 to log a 75 in round two. Luxenburg's two-round score of 156 placed him in a tie for 49th.
Scott Hockemeyer (80-82) and Tanner Norton (83-79) tied for 65th with a two-day score of 162.
Host Old Dominion earned the team title, firing a 286 on day two for a final score of 584. George Washington (300-288) finished four strokes back with a 588 to claim runner-up honors. The rest of the top-five consisted of Penn (305-284--589), George Mason (309-283--592) and Longwood (304-289-593).
Elon placed higher than Drexel (327-289--616) and St. Joseph's (324-319--643).
The Phoenix will participate in its final fall tournament, The Hummingbird Intercollegiate, on Nov. 2-3 in Sapphire, N.C.
