Chattanooga, Wichita State Tied for Aldila Scenic City Invitational Lead
Charlotte’s Olafur Loftsson holds individual lead at 135 (-9)
CHATTANOOGA Tenn.---The 18th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs and Wichita State are tied for the 36-hole lead of the Aldila Scenic City Invitational at Council Fire Golf Club. The Mocs and Shockers shot 564 (-12) to hold a two-shot lead over Southern Miss in third at 566 (-10).
The Mocs shot rounds of 284 (-4) and 280 (-8), while Wichita State following an opening 285 (-3) with the day’s low round of 279 (-9). The Eagles led after a first round 283 (-5) and are in good position with an afternoon 283 (-5) to stand at 566.
Charlotte and Middle Tennessee round out the top five. The 49ers are eight shots off the lead at 572, while the Blue Raiders are one shot back at 573.
The Mocs have three golfers ranked in the top 10 led by Chattanooga area native Derek Rende in fourth at 138 (-6) after rounds of 68 and 70. Fredrik Qvicker’s team-best 67 (-5) in the afternoon placed him tied for fifth at 139 (-5). Stephan Jaeger is tied for ninth after twin 70s place him at 140 (-4).
Charlotte’s Olafur Loftsson carded a 68 in the first round followed by a 67 to shoot 135 (-9). Southern Miss’ Wes Carter and Wichita State’s Dustin Garza are tied for second just two shots off the pace at 137.
Qvicker leads the tournament with 13 birdies today followed closely by Garza with 12. Garza played the par fives at a scintillating nine-under par.
The Mocs scoring was rounded out by Steven Fox and J.T. Clendenin. Fox is tied for 36th at three-over par 147, while Clendenin is tied for 60th at 151 (+7).
The tournament tees off at 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start. Chattanooga, Wichita State and Southern Miss are paired together starting at holes one through three. The event is open to the public.
Furman Men’s Golf In Sixth At Aldila Scenic City Invitational
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Furman golfers carded six rounds of par or better over the opening two rounds to grab a share of sixth place after 36 holes at the Aldila Scenic City Invitational at the par-72 Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Monday.
Sophomore Matt Broome (70-70-140) led the way for the Paladins shooting back-to-back rounds of two-under par 70 to hold a share of ninth place while teammate Daniel Bowden (72-72=144) shot even par over the opening two rounds. Broome trails tournament leader Olafur Loftsson (68-67=135) of Charlotte by five strokes through 36 holes.
Austin Reeves (73-72=145) shot one-over par for the Paladins while Furman’s Jack Ulrich fired a second round 70 playing as an individual.
The host Chattanooga Mocs (284-280=564) used an eight-under 280 in round two to share the tournament lead with Wichita State (285-279=564). Southern Miss is in third place with Charlotte in fourth place and Middle Tennessee State in fifth place after Monday’s play. Furman and Missouri State are tied for sixth just 13 strokes behind Chattanooga.
Final round play will begin with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

CofC Men’s Golf Finishes Day One of Adila Scenic City Invite
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. ? College of Charleston men’s golf sits in a tie for 13th place after the first day of the Adila Scenic City Invite at the Council Fire Golf Club.
The Cougars finished the day with a score of 597 after 36 holes to tie with conference foe Western Carolina. The team sat in a 10th-place tie with University of Akron after the first round.
Freshman John Hudson (Sonora, Texas/Sonora) leads Charleston with a first-round score of 72 and a team-best 73 in the second round. His first day total of 145 puts him in a tie for 24th place. Tim Mitchell (Austin, Texas/Westlake) shot a team-best 71in the first round and hit a 79 to finish second on the team with 150.
Southern Conference member Chattanooga and Wichita State University lead the field of 17 teams with a 12-under par score of 564.
Due to impending rain on Tuesday, the tournament will have a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

Elon’s Judy Four Strokes Back at ODU/Seascape
KITTY HAWK, N.C. -- Elon's Jayson Judy shot a one-over par 73 and sits in a tie for second place during the first round of the 2009 ODU/Seascape Intercollegiate while the Phoenix sits in 10th place among the 14-team field after posting a round of 312. Host Old Dominion leads the field following a round of 298 on Monday.
Judy's 73 puts him four strokes behind individual leader Eric Onesi of ODU who carded a first round score of 69.
Tied for 30th is Elon's Stephen Dressel who shot a 78 in his first round. Scott Hockemeyer sits tied for 46th with a round of 80 with Alex Luxenburg holding down a tie for 52nd with an 81. Filling out Elon's participants was Tanner Norton whose 83 places him in tie for 62nd among the 73 golfers in the field.
ODU holds a two-stroke advantage over George Washington who shot a 300. Longwood (304), Penn (305) and Towson (307) round out the top-five.
The Phoenix currently leads Radford (313), Delaware (315), Drexel (320) and St. Joseph's (324).
The final round will be played on Tuesday at the par-70 Seascape Golf Course in Kitty Hawk, N.C.
