Paladins In Ninth At Lousiville’s Cardinal Intercollegiate
Simpsonville, Ky. ? Junior Garland Ferrell (70-75=145) posted a first round 70 on his way to a one-over 145 after two rounds to lead Furman
(291-297=588) into ninth on the opening day of the Cardinal intercollegiate Monday at the par-72 Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
Ferrell holds a share of 26th after two rounds while freshman Anthony Aloi
(71-76=147) used a one-under 71 first round to grab a share of 34th place at three-over-par after two rounds in the 54-hole event.
Denver and host Louisville hold a three-stroke lead over Eastern Kentucky entering final round action on Tuesday. Denver’s Espen Kofstad
(67-66=133) opened the tournament with rounds of five-under and six-under par to hold a two-stroke lead over Trey Bowling (65-70=135) of Eastern Kentucky.
Final round action is slated to begin Tuesday morning.

Top-Ranked Mocs in 13th After Second Round at Ping/Golfweek Preview
TOLEDO, Ohio---The No. 1 Chattanooga Mocs (599) struggled with a 300 in round two of the Ping/Golfweek Preview at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio to drop to 13th place. The Preview is played at the host club of the spring’s NCAA Finals.
Senior Ben Rickett paced the Mocs with a two-over par round of 73 on the day is is tied for 21st with a two-day total of 144 (+2). Junior Derek Rende is tied for 30th at 147 (+5) with a 77 to follow his one-under par 70 yesterday.
One of the top birdie teams in the country, the Mocs had just 13 on the day. Rende, who had eight in the first round, led the team with five today.
Oklahoma State (559) added to its first round lead with a seven-under par 277 (-7) and is now eight shots clear of second place Tennessee at 567 (-1). Third-place features a tie between Georgia and Clemson at plus-seven (575). Individually, OSU’s Morgan Huffman shot a five-under par 66 to stand at 135 (-7), one shot ahead of Tennessee’s Robin Wingardh at 136.
Chattanooga freshman Stephan Jaeger is tied for 55th after a second round 74 (+3) moved him to 153. Senior Jonathan Hodge (155) shot 76 to stand tied for 62nd, while junior Fredrik Qvicker is tied for 66 at 156.
The Mocs will tee it up at tomorrow’s final round with Texas A&M (602) and Toledo (613) off of the No. 10 tee beginning at 9:20 a.m.

Western Carolina Men’s Golf Finishes 13th at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship
Junior Ricky Stout and sophomore Caleb Marsh finish tied for 23rd to lead Catamounts
Franklin, Tenn. ? Junior Ricky Stout and sophomore Caleb Marsh each recorded a three-day total of 217 to finish tied for 23rd as Western Carolina placed 13th overall in the Mason Rudolph Championship which concluded Sunday afternoon at the par 71 Vanderbilt Legends Club.
The three-day total of 880 carded by the Catamounts ranks 13th on WCU’s all-time, 54-hole tournament scoring charts.
South Carolina fired a 13-under 839 to win the event team championship by eight strokes over Southeastern Conference (SEC) counterpart, Kentucky (847). A third SEC school, Mississippi State, was third at 850, followed by Middle Tennessee State (854) and the host, Vanderbilt (855), rounding out the top five.
Kentucky’s Ben Fuqua broke the 200 barrier with a 15-under 198 to claim individual medalist honors by seven strokes over Vanderbilt’s Jon Curran (205) and Middle Tennessee’s Jason Millard (205).
Stout shot an even-par 71 on Sunday to move up to 23rd, while Marsh ? who led after the opening round on Friday ? slipped with a final round 76. Senior Andres Cuenca posted a three-day total of 220 to finish tied for 43rd, while juniors Dustin Furnari (226, t-71st) and Cody Walker (237, t-87th) rounded out the field for WCU.
The Catamounts return to action Oct. 6-7 at the Mizuno Intercollegiate, hosted by Southern Conference foe, Georgia Southern, in Savannah, Ga., at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.

Bowman records Top 20 finish as UNCG holds onto ninth at Mason Rudolf
FRANKLIN, TN ? UNC Greensboro’s Will Bowman shot a final round 72 to record a Top 20 finish and help UNCG to a final round score of 291 and a ninth place finish at the Mason Rudolf Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament.
Bowman, a junior from Greensboro, NC, finished the weekend two-over and tied for 17th place and fourth career Top 20 finish. Kyle Sonday bounced back to shoot 72 on Sunday to tie Bowman for team-best round. The Spartans tied for ninth place with a tournament score of 869.
South Carolina, with three golfers in the Top 10, cruised to the team championship, eight shots better than SEC rival Kentucky. Kentucky’s Ben Fuqua ran away with the individual crown ? literally. Fuqua equaled his round of 65 again on Sunday to shoot 15-under par 198 for the tournament and give him a seven-shot victory over Vanderbilt’s Jon Curran and Middle Tennessee State’s Jason Millard. On the weekend, Fuqua had 20 birdies and
29 pars in his 54 holes.
Bowman had a solid final round with 15 pars. He had bogeys in Nos. 2 and 12 and birdied 15 to finish the day one-over par. Sonday, a sophomore from Cary, NC, started out hot, sitting three-under par through six holes. But a bogey on No. 7 and a double bogey on No. 8 brought him back to even at the turn. He had six pars on the back side to finish the day one-over par.
UNCG will return to action on October 6 at the Notre Dame Gridiron Golf Classic.

Top-Ranked Mocs Off to Slow Start at Ping/Golfweek Preview
TOLEDO, Ohio---The No. 1 Chattanooga Mocs got off to a disappointing start shooting 299 (+15) at the Ping/Golfweek Preview at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The Preview is played at the host club of the spring’s NCAA Finals.
Junior Derek Rende is tied for eighth after a one-under par 70 to lead Chattanooga. Senior Ben Rickett fired an even-par 71 to stand tied for 14th. The Mocs are tied for 12th after day one with Florida State and Kent State.
Oklahoma State is the early leader after a two-under par 282 led by one of the nation’s top individuals Rickie Fowler with a 68. The Cowboys lead second-place Tennessee (284) by two shots, while Southern California is third at 286 (+2). USC’s Jamie Lovemark is the individual leader after a five-under par round of 66.
Jonathan Hodge, Stephan Jaeger and Fredrik Qvicker each shot 79 (+8) to round out the Mocs scoring. The 79 is the highest score of Jaeger’s early career, while it is Hodge’s highest score since shooting 81 in the second round of the 2006 Scenic City Invitational at the Honors Course on Sept. 11.
The Mocs will tee it up at tomorrow’s second round with Kent State and Toledo (314) off of the No. 10 tee beginning at 10:20 a.m. The tournament concludes after a final 18 holes on Tuesday.
