Greenville, S.C. -- Furman men’s golfer Chris Gilliland has been named as one of 96 NCAA Division I Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, it was announced this week by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Gilliland appeared in nine tournaments this season recording a 75.85 stroke average over 26 rounds. He scored a season best 11th place finish while helping Furman capture the team title at the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate at the Country Club of South Carolina. The Paladin senior posted a 3.88 grade point average while majoring in philosophy.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors, student-athletes must be a junior or senior, participate in 70 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.
