25th Anniversary Spotlight - Stephanie McNeill

The 2007-08 academic year marks the 25th anniversary of women’s championships in the Southern Conference, and to celebrate the occasion, the Southern Conference is spotlighting individuals who have been named to the league’s 25th Anniversary teams.

Stephanie McNeill

 

 

Stephanie McNeill (2003-07) was the first female in The Citadel’s history to qualify and compete in an NCAA Championship event.

 

McNeill won the hammer throw and shot put at the 2007 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship along with winning the 20-lb weight throw at the Indoor Championship.  She also won the hammer throw at the All-Academy/Military Championships and the discus at the 2006 Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

 

McNeill was named the 2006 and 2007 Southern Conference Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year, and she was a nine-time All-SoCon member.

 

McNeill is a four-time NCAA Regional participant-twice in the shot put and once each in the hammer and discus.

 

The following Citadel student-athletes join McNeill on the Southern Conference’s 25th Anniversary Teams:

 

Rachel Evans (1999-02), Volleyball ? holds career school records for kills, attack attempts, points and points per game; holds school record for kills, services aces and points in a match.

Lauren Merchant (2000-05), Soccer ? The Citadel’s first female to earn player of the week honors; second in career points and goals; first in career assists.  

Sharon Hacker (1998-02), Track and Field ?The Citadel’s first female to score points in the 3,000-meters at the SoCon Championships; eighth-best miler in school history; second best time in the 3,000-meters and 5,000-meters.

Suzanne Campbell (2000-04), Golf ? First female golfer at The Citadel; played as an individual in the 2000-01 season; highest finish was sixth place; saw program grow from one player in ’01 to six in ?03-’04.
