SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro senior Nathan Stamey has been named Southern Conference men’s golfer of the week for April 9.

Stamey recorded a third-place finish at the Bank of America Intercollegiate in Madison, Miss. on Tuesday as he recorded three straight under-par rounds. The Canton, N.C., native carded rounds of 70, 71 and 70 to finish at 211 for the tournament, four strokes off the lead. It was his first top 5 finish this season and the fifth of his career. His 54-hole total of 211 equaled the best of his career in 42 tournaments. The result was Stamey’s third straight top 10 finish and his fifth in nine outings this season. It also marked the first time that the senior shot three sub-par rounds in a tournament since his very first collegiate outing in September 2004, when he won the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate.

Another top performance was turned in by Chattanooga’s Jonathan Hodge, who finished one stroke behind Stamey in the same event.
