Chattanooga Wins Fourth Tournament; UNCG's Stamey Third

Mocs Prevail Under Tough Wind Conditions to Tie School Record at Ole Miss

MADISON, Miss.---The wind made scoring difficult at the Bank of America Intercollegiate, yet No. 12 Chattanooga emerged with a final-round 289 (+1) to claim its fourth title this season to tie the school record for wins (2007).  The Mocs shot the second low round of the day at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss., finishing the 54-hole event at 852.

Chattanooga topped No. 45 LSU, the two teams were tied heading into the final round, by four shots and host Ole Miss, ranked 32nd, by 13 shots.  North Florida tied for third with the Rebels after a six-under par 282.

“As good as Tyler (Neff) was for us yesterday, Ben Rickett was today,” said Head Coach Mark Guhne.  “He brought it back after a tough start.”

Jonathan Hodge led the Mocs in fourth place overall at 212 (-4) after a final round 72 (E).  It is his sixth top five of the year, fourth of the spring.  J.T. Clendenin finished tied for eighth at two-under par, 214, following a final round 72 (E).

Rickett played four-over par (40) on the front side before coming in at 34 (-2) to shoot 74.  He finished the tournament tied in 11th place at 215 (-1).  First day hero Tyler Neff shot a four-over par 76, to complete his tournament tied for 13th at even par 216.  Derek Rende completed a solid tournament at two-over par 218 following a 71 (-1) today to tie for 21st.

“It was truly a team win,” added Guhne.  “We needed everybody to get this done against a tough field.  Derek and J.T. were both solid for us today.  This is certainly a performance to build on.”

UTC’s three drop scores for the week were 74, 73 and 76, or a total of 223 (+7).  That score would have finished tied for 41st for the tournament, and in the top three on seven squads, leading one.

The Mocs are off until the Southern Conference Championships April 20-22 at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

Stamey superb again as Spartans finish seventh at Bank of American Intercollegiate

MADISON, Miss. ? Nathan Stamey’s third straight sub-par round gave him a third-place finish and helped UNC Greensboro to seventh place in the final team standings at the Bank of America Intercollegiate at Reunion Golf Club.

Chattanooga won the team title by four shots, carding a total of 852 to outlast LSU by four shots. The Spartans shot a final round total of 292 to move up in a pack of teams in the middle of the standings. The Spartans moved into seventh on the final day, three shots behind UAB and four behind Vanderbilt.

Starting on the backside, Stamey played his first nine holes at four-under 32 and was in contention for the title. But a bogey at No. 3 and consecutive bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7 proved costly. UAB’s Zach Sucher won the individual title with a final round 68, beating Mississippi’s Jonathan Randolph by two shots and Stamey by four. Chattanooga’s Jonathan Hodge was fourth, one shot behind Stamey.

The Spartans return to action next Monday at the Palisades Collegiate in Charlotte, NC.
