Chattanooga Increases Advantage at Men?s Golf Championship

FLORENCE, S.C. ? A total team effort enabled Chattanooga to gain an eight-stroke advantage following the second round of the 2008 Men’s Golf Championships presented by Seven Falls Golf and River Club at the Country Club of South Carolina, as four Mocs golfers posted rounds under par.

 

Chattanooga Junior Ben Rickett followed an even par round one with a three-under par 69 to take the 36-hole lead at 141. A trio of golfers, including Matt Cook (Western Carolina), first round leader Nathan Stamey (UNC Greensboro) and Soonam Kim (College of Charleston) sit one stroke back in second place.

 

Western Carolina’s Cook carded the low round of the day and of the event with a five-under par 67. Cook notched eight birdies, including six on the front nine, and three bogies to rise from a tie for 21st place after day one to a tie for third at 142.

 

College of Charleston recorded an even-par 288 to remain in second place, eight shots behind Chattanooga. Furman will join the Mocs and Cougars in Tuesday’s final pairing as the Paladins are in third place, 15 strokes behind Chattanooga with a 36-hole total of 586.

 

Western Carolina is in fourth place followed by UNC Greensboro and Elon, which are tied for the fifth slot. Wofford, which made the biggest improvement over day one by firing 18 fewer strokes on Monday, sits in seventh while Georgia Southern, Davidson and Appalachian State round out the leaderboard.
