FLORENCE, S.C. ? Fredrik Qvicker fired a two-under par 70 to help Chattanooga take a one stroke advantage on day one of the Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship presented by Seven Falls Golf and River Club at the Country Club of South Carolina.
Chattanooga, the defending tournament champions and 12th-ranked team in the country according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Rating Index, fired a two-over par 290 and holds a one-stroke advantage over College of Charleston and Furman, which both recorded three-over par 291 totals.
UNC Greensboro’s Nathan Stamey finished the day alone atop the individual leaderboard after carding a 69. The senior bogeyed the first hole but remained error-free the rest of the round, adding four birdies to finish at three-under par.
A trio of golfers sits one stroke back of Stamey at two-under par, including Qvicker, Furman’s Ben Goforth and Western Carolina’s Ricky Stout. Soonam Kim of College of Charleston also finished under par after carding an opening-round 71.
Second round play begins at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning with teams teeing off from the first and 10th holes.
