Chattanooga Leads Palmetto Intercollegiate by 16 Shots
AIKEN, S.C.---The No. 16 Chattanooga Men’s Golf team is off to a flying start at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, a part of the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship Series. Its 36-hole total of 568 (+8) places the team in first place by 16 strokes over 30th-ranked Virginia Tech.
The Mocs shot 289 (+9) to take an early tournament lead after round one by five shots over Penn State. Sophomore Fredrik Qvicker led the field with an even-par score of 70. Jonathan Hodge and J.T. Clendenin each shot two-over par 72’s, tying for sixth place.
“I am pleased with our performance in the first round,” said Head Coach Mark Guhne. “The guys really responded after an off performance in Florida.”
Chattanooga turned it up notch in the afternoon with a one-under par total of 279. Sophomore Derek Rende led the charge with a 68 (-2) to finish the day tied for third at 143 (+3). Clendenin surged into a tie for first place with a 69 (-1) completing his day at one-over par (141). He is tied with Virginia Tech’s Jurrian vander Vaart.
Qvicker shot a 75 (+5) to fall into a tie for eighth with Hodge, who shot 73, at 145 (+5). Junior Ben Rickett shot 69 in the afternoon, to finish tied for 26th at 150. The Mocs had three sub-par rounds in the afternoon, while the rest of the field carded just two.
“I’m proud of the way we came back this afternoon,” added Guhne. “Especially Ben. Now we just need to finish what we’ve started.”
The Mocs will play the final 18 holes tomorrow at the Palmetto Golf Club.
Furman Seventh At Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate
Aiken, S.C. -- Senior Ben Goforth (74-70=144) carded a second round even-par 70 to earn a share of sixth place and help Furman move into seventh after two rounds at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Monday at the 6,565-yard Palmetto Golf Club.
Furman (304-300=604) rebounded from a first round 34 to gain four spots with a second round 300 on the par 70 layout. Jonathan Bowden (74-76=150) and Austin Reeves (80-76=156) each posted rounds of six-over 70 to grab 26th and 50th place, respectively.
Southern Conference rival Chattanooga (289-279=568) enters the final round with a 16-stroke edge on second place Virginia Tech (297-287=584) and 24-stroke advantage on third place USC Aiken (301-291=592). The Mocs’

CofC Men's Golf Finish Two Rounds at Callaway Golf Invitational
San Diego, Calif. - The College of Charleston men's golf team posted a 296 in the first round and a 302 in the second round to finish with a 598 at the Callaway Golf Invitational being held Mar. 10-11 at The Farms Golf Club in San Diego, Calif. The Cougars' position in the tournament had not been posted as of press time.
Tim Tang leads the Cougars after firing a 73 in each round for a 146 total. Following Tang is Soonam Kim, who finished the first round with a par-72 and followed that with a 77 to sit with a 149 after 36 holes. Harrison Moore and Dennis McCollum are tied with a 153, while Scott Larkin rounds out the Cougar effort with a two-round total of 154.
The third and final round gets underway Tuesday morning.

Eagles Finish Up at Hackler Invitational
Murrells Inlet, S.C. - The Georgia Southern golf team wrapped up its final round of competition at the General Jim Hackler Invitational, Monday (Mar. 10) finishing in 15th place and carding a 92-over 956 at the par-72, 6,950-yard TPC of Myrtle Beach.
Junior Ryan LeFevre (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the Eagles tying for 49th place, shooting a 19-over 235. Junior Jordan Johnstun (Evans, Ga.) followed shooting a 20-over 236 (T53), while Ryan Zabroske (Alpharetta, Ga.) carded a 26-over 242 (T63). Junior Drew Lethem (Camdenton, Mo.) shot a 30-over 246 (76) and senior Chris Smith (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished the tournament shooting a 33-over 249 (77).
Making the jump from a tie for fifth place after two rounds of competition, No. 18 Wake Forest shot the day’s low 292 and finished on top with a 33-over 897. Just three strokes behind was No. 11 Florida State (+36).
Winning the individual title by just two strokes was Louisville’s Derek Fathauer shooting a 1-over 217.
Head coach Larry Mays and the Eagles will have little time to rest as they next prepare for the upcoming Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational. Competition begins Friday, Mar. 14 and will continue through Sunday, Mar. 16 at the Forest Heights Country Club here in Statesboro.

UNCG men 11th after two rounds at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate
AIKEN, S.C. ? Nathan Stamey carded rounds of 72 and 76 on Monday to help UNCG to an 11th place standing after two rounds at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Stamey is in a tie for 17th place after two rounds, seven shots off the pace. He was just two shots back after the morning round, but fell off the pace in the afternoon. Virginia Tech’s Jurrian vander Vaart and Chattanooga’s J.T. Clendenin are tied for the lead at one-over 141. Three players are tied for third, two shots back.
Chattanooga leads the team scoring with a comfortable lead. The Mocs carded a two-round score of 568 on Monday to gain a 16-shot lead over Virginia Tech. UNCG, which sat fourth after carding a morning round total of 298, is 11th with a two-round total of 611.
Tuesday’s final round will get underway with tee times beginning at 9 am.
UNCG’s pairings begin at 9:40 am.
