GREENSBORO, GA - The Chattanooga golf team finished third Monday at the inaugural Linger Longer Invitational held at Reynolds Plantation.
The Mocs finished with a 2-over par 290 to finish behind No.1-ranked Georgia and No.23 Charlotte. The Mocs entered the final round in fourth place, but edged No.13 North Carolina by three strokes for third.
Junior Bryce Ledford sandwiched a 3-under par 69 between a pair of level-par 72's and finished tied for third place. Charlotte's Trevor Murphy and North Carolina's Martin Ureta both finished at 5-under par, but Murphy prevailed on the second playoff hole to claim medalist honors.
Freshmen Ben Rickett and Jonathan Hodge both posted 1-under par scores in the final round to claim a spot in the top 20. Rickett's three-round total of 219 put him in a tie for 16th, while Hodge's 220 was good for 19th.
"I couldn't be prouder of our team" said coach Mark Guhne. "We finished behind two Top 25 teams and ahead of a Top 15 team. Seven of the teams in this field will be playing in the NCAA's next weekend. It's great for our program to get a chance to play in a field like this and they stepped up their game. Bryce showed by his finish that he can play with anybody."
While the collegiate season is over for the Mocs, there is still much golf to be played. Ledford, Hodge, and Mitch Brock have qualified for the Tennessee Open which starts tomorrow at the Country Club of Tennessee.

GREENSBORO, GA - The Georgia Southern golf team finished ninth at the first annual Linger Longer Invitational Monday afternoon.
The event concludes the Eagles regular season, but the team will take to the links on Thursday, May 18 as they participate in the 2006 NCAA East Regionals in Orlando, Fla. The trip marks the sixth straight regional appearance for Georgia Southern.
Seniors Drew Bowen and Jon David Kennedy paced the Eagles as they both finished tied for 16th, ending the tournament at seven-under par 219. Bowen fired a final round 71 while Kennedy shot a 74. Junior Bryan Jones carded a final round 77 to finish the tournament tied for 36th at even-par 226.
Freshman Ryan LeFevre ended the event at two-over 228 after shooting a final round 78, while fellow freshman Jordan Johnstun finished in 65th at ten-over par 236.
Senior Jonathan Shaw, who was competing as an individual, finished tied for 62nd at eight-over 234 after shooting a final round 83.
No. 1 Georgia (285-281-289=855, -9) won the championship at the 12-team event. Trevor Murphy of Charlotte (68-72-71=211, -5) defeated North Carolina’s Martin Ureta (70-71-70=211, -5) on the second playoff hole to win individual medalist honors.
Seven teams from the Linger Longer field will be competing at this weekend’s NCAA Regionals. Georgia, North Carolina, Charlotte, South Carolina, Florida State and Georgia Southern will play in the East Regional. Missouri will tee off in the Central Regional.
The NCAA East Regionals begin Wednesday, May 17 with a practice round while the competition will run May 18-20.
