WALLBURG, NC ? Sparked by top-20 showings from freshman Taylor Hines and junior Meredith Morrison, Appalachian State University men’s and women’s golf placed third and fifth, respectively, at the High Point University Men’s and Women’s Spring Invitationals on Monday and Tuesday at the Meadowlands G.C. in Wallburg, N.C.

Hines fired a closing-round even-par 72 to finish with a two-round total of 150, good for a tie for fifth place individually. On the women’s side, Morrison carded rounds of 80 and 81 to tie for 18th in the field.

In the team standings, the men’s two-round total of 610 was good for third in the five-team field, just 20 strokes behind champion Radford and nine shots back from host High Point. The Mountaineer women placed eighth out of 12 teams with a two-round total of 665, just 10 strokes out of fifth. Methodist won the team title with a 622.

The tournament was the final tune-up for the men before they shoot for their third-ever SoCon Championship April 16-18 at the Links at Stono Ferry in Charleston, S.C. The women have one regular-season tournament remaining, at the Bonnie Hoover Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. on Saturday and Sunday.
