GREENVILLE, NC - Appalachian State University men’s golf finished 13th in the 16-team field at the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University. The Mountaineers fired a 301-300-304-905 in the three-round tournament on the par 72 track. Akron won the tournament with a 290-287-295-872.
Junior Ronnie Christopher (Fayetteville, N.C.) led the Mountaineers with a 26th place finish after a 72-72-80-224 performance. Akron’s Vaughn Snyder took medalist honors with a five-under par 70-71-70-211.
Rounding out ASU’s scoring was senior Brady Eckard’s (Conover, N.C.) 40th place finish with a 78-74-75-227. Dan Gossin (Cary, N.C.) followed in 44th firing a 75-76-77-228. Drew Davis (Asheville, N.C.) and Taylor Hines (Hickory, N.C.) finished 58th and 59th, respectively. Davis ended the Intercollegiate with a 76-77-78-231 while Hines had a 79-78-75-232.
The Moutaineers return to the links on April 3-4 at the HPU Panther Invitational hosted by High Point University at the Meadowlands Golf Club in Wallburg, N.C.

GREENVILLE, NC ? Bennett Smith fired a two-under-par 70 in final-round action Saturday afternoon, propelling Elon to a sixth-place finish at the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate men's golf tournament on the 7,120-yard Bradford Creek Club course.
The Phoenix (297-297-294?888) entered Saturday's play in 10th place, but rallied with the day's lowest score to end up in a sixth-place tie with Old Dominion (290-292-306?888) in the 16-team field. Akron (290-287-295?872) claimed the three-round, two-day tournament's team title.
Smith (73-72-70?215) finished in a tie with Kennesaw State's Kris Shepherd (70-72-73?215) for fourth place out of 79 golfers. Akron's Vaughn Snyder (70-71-70?211) outdueled teammate David Addison (70-70-72?212) and Georgetown's Matt Busa (73-67-73?213) for medalist honors. Smith and Snyder each carded a 70 Saturday, the lowest score of the final round.
After Akron, St. John's (286-288-305?879), Kennesaw State (283-293-305?881), Radford (290-296-297?883) and host East Carolina (282-301-300?883) rounded out the top five teams.
Georgetown (295-290-305?890), George Mason (287-306-302?895), Tennessee State (298-300-298?896), Longwood (300-286-313?899), ECU's Gold Team (294-307-299?900), Appalachian State (301-300-304?905), Seton Hall (297-300-311?908), Davenport (315-306-323?944) and Post (307-311-DNF?DNF) made up the rest of the field.

EVANS, GA - Georgia Southern fired a final round 300 to finish 14th at the 2006 Augusta State Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Champions Retreat Golf Club.
Coastal Carolina, who is ranked 24th in the nation, won the event after shooting a final round 289 to finish the tournament at ten-under par 854. USC Aiken came in second at five-under par 859 while Clemson was third at even par 864.
USC Aiken’s Scott Brown won the individual title after shooting a final round 68, putting him at 9-under for the event. Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson came in second at eight-under par 208.
Senior Jon David Kennedy led the Eagles, finishing tied for 31st at 4-over 220. Freshman Jordan Johnstun finished tied for 48th after a final round 73 (8-over). Senior Drew Bowen and Junior Bryan Jones ended the event tied for 62nd at eleven-over. Freshman Ryan LeFevre was two strokes behind Bowen and Jones at 13-over, coming in 69th. Toshi Hirata, who competed as an individual, finished at twenty four-over, tied for 82nd.
Georgia Southern will return to action on April 7, as the team competes in the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate hosted by North Carolina State.
