GSU And WCU's Cook Claim Titles At 2006 SoCon Men's Golf Championship

HOLLYWOOD, SC ? Georgia Southern acquired its first Southern Conference men’s golf championship since 2003 and its second in the last 10 years with a three-over team total of 867 at the 2006 SoCon Men’s Golf Championship at the par 72 The Links at Stono Ferry.

 

Georgia Southern was led by second place individual finisher and first team All-SoCon member Bryan Jones, who along with 2006 SoCon Player of the Year Matt Cook finished the third and final day with a 69.

 

Cook won the SoCon individual championship with a three-day total of five-under par 211, besting Jones’ three-day output of 214 by three strokes. Drew Bowen of Georgia Southern came in just behind Jones in third with a three-day mark of 215.

 

Wofford’s Neil O’Briain, who was tabbed as the league’s freshman of the year by the coaches, tied Jones and Cook for low round of the day on Tuesday, finishing with a final round score of 69 to tie for fourth with two others at 217.
