TALLAHASSEE, FL - Tucker Ervin shot a 215, which included a 73 today, to lead the College of Charleston men’s golf team to a 12th-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate held at Golden Eagle Country Club.
Coastal Carolina defended its 2004 title with a seven-stroke win over N.C. State with a three-day total of 851.
N.C. State’s Stephen Lewton won individual medalist honors with a 203, shooting a 66 the second round and a 67 the third.
Ervin finished 12th for the Cougars, while Gari Maton, with his 223, finished tied for 40th. Tim Tang tied for 44th with a 225 and tied for 52nd with a 228 each was Dustin Barr and Dennis McCollum.
The Cougars next compete March 13th at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Classic being held in Aiken, S.C.

DORADO BEACH, PUERTO RICO ? The Georgia Southern golf team shot a final-round score of 277 to end with a three-round tournament score of 860 in finishing sixth at the third annual Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate. No. 17 Texas Tech led wire-to-wire to win the 11-team event at the par-72, 7,064-yard Plantation Club hosted by Georgia State.
The Red Raiders fired the third-lowest final-round of the day with a 281 to end with an 843 total in posting an 11-stroke victory over second-place Kentucky. The Wildcats finished with an 854 total after shooting a 285 on the last day. Charlotte and Louisville ended in a tie for third at 856. The 49ers carded a 282 in the final round, while the Cardinals shot a 283. Texas Tech’s Oscar Floren and Andrew Dresser were co-champions finishing with a nine-under-par 207.
Freshman Jordan Johnstun paced the Eagles as he carded a final round personal best 67 to finish with a total score of 210, and a 4th place finish. Junior Bryan Jones and senior Drew Bowen finished tied for 20th at 217. Jones fired a 1-over 73 in the final round while Bowen shot a 4-under 68 to end the tournament. Senior Jonathan Shaw carded a final round 70 to finish at 220, tied for 34th. Fellow senior Jon David Kennedy shot a 72 on Tuesday, finishing at 223 at 40th.
“This was the round we have been waiting for,” said head coach Larry Mays. “This will hopefully give us some positive momentum heading into the next few tournaments. I am really proud of Jordan (Johnstun) and the way he stepped up this weekend. It was a big step for him and it should give him some much deserved confidence. Drew (Bowen) also played really well for us this week, shooting a 68 in today’s final round.”

BUIES CREEK, NC - Western Carolina, playing its first event of the spring, fired a 609 over the final 36 holes to move up three place and place sixth at Campbell's Hargrove Davis Spring Classic, played at a windy Keith Hills Country Club No. 1. Western tallied a 54-hole score of 919, which was just six strokes out of third. Sophomore Matt Cook carded a four-over 220 to place third, four strokes out of first. In this Cook's 11th event as a Catamount all-time, he registered his seventh top five and ninth top 10.
In addition to Cook, Western was able to make its charge over the final 36 holes thanks to Matt Flueckiger. After an opening round 84, Flueckiger bounced back to fire a 77 in round two and 74 in round three. He finished with a 235 and tied for 42nd. Blake Wray had a consistent three rounds, 78-76-78, and his total of 232 tied him for 28th. Keith Tyburski (237) and Tripp Morrow (239) rounded out the Catamount fivesome.
Western Carolina will return to action Mar. 18-19 at the El Diablo Intercollegiate. The event, hosted by Marshall, will be played at the El Diablo Golf & Country Club in Citrus Springs, Fla.
