GREENVILLE, SC - Maryland's Blaine Peffley recorded a final round 67 to claim individual medalist honors and give the Terps (289-289-289=867) the team title on Sunday afternoon in the 37th Furman Intercollegiate presented by Verizon Wireless at the Furman University Golf Course.
Peffley (70-69-67=206) used seven birdies and fired a 31 on the back nine to claim medalist honors by six strokes over Western Carolina's Matt Cook (70-72-70=212).The three-round total of 206 marks the lowest winning score since Furman's Todd White posted a 206 to win the 1989 Furman Intercollegiate.
Maryland, who carded a one over par 289 in each of the tournament's three rounds, finished 12 strokes ahead of second place Chattanooga (299-286-294=879) and 18 strokes better than third place Samford (294-291-300=885). Wofford (295-296-295=886) and Furman (295-296-298=889) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Garrett Schneider (74-75-73=222) posted a final round one over par to lead Furman. T.J. Blandford was Furman's highest finisher for the weekend recording a six over par 221 to tie for 15th place.

GREENVILLE, SC - Western Carolina sophomore Matt Cook fired a two-under par 70 in the final round of the Furman Intercollegiate to place second for his ninth career top five finish in 14 all-time events. His play led the Catamounts to tie for ninth in a highly competitive 16-team field. Western has recorded a top 10 finish in all eight of its events in 2005-06.
Cook, who carded a 54-hole score of 212, was six strokes behind medalist Blaine Pefflex of Maryland (70-69-67=206) and four strokes ahead of third-place finisher Neil O'Briain of Wofford. In addition, Cook's 212 ranks as his fourth-lowest, three-round score and the seventh-lowest, three-round score in school history. The Murphy product led the field on the par 3's, averaging one-under over three days. He was also eight-under on the par 5's, which tied for third. Over 54 holes, Cook recorded 34 pars and 11 birdies.
Tripp Morrow was Western's second-leading scorer in the event, shooting a 228 over three rounds and tying for 48. Blake Wray and Matt Flueckiger each carded a 235 to tie for 76th, while Brian Hogan was 93rd with his 243.
Western, who was one shot out of eighth, tied for ninth with four other schools. Its 907 ranks as the 19th-lowest, 54-hole team score in school history.
In addition to claiming individual medalist honors, Maryland won the team competition as well with a score of 867, 12 strokes better than second-place Chattanooga. Samford, Wofford and host-team Furman rounded out the top five.
The Catamounts will play its final regular-season event of the season April 3-4 at the Wofford Invitational, played at Spartanburg's Carolina Country Club.

GREENVILLE, SC - Jonathan Hodge and Bryce Ledford were two of only six players to break par in windy conditions as the Chattanooga golf team posted a final round 6-over par to finish in second place at the Furman Intercollegiate.
Hodge fired a second consecutive 1-under par 71 to finish at 1-over for the tournament and in a tie for fourth place. Ledford rebounded from Saturday’s 74 to card a 71 of his own to finish in seventh place at 2-over par. Ben Rickett’s final-round 77 left him tied for 15th.
The Mocs’ 294 was bettered only by the University of Maryland’s 1-over par 289. Sunday was the third consecutive 289 posted by the Terrapins en route to the team title.
The Terrapins’ Blaine Pefflex fired a final-round 67 to run away with the medalist honors, amassing a three-day total of 10-under par. This is the third consecutive tournament which the Mocs have finished as the runners-up.
The fourth place finish is Hodge’s second of the spring. The freshman also had a fourth place finish at the Birkdale Collegiate, the Mocs’ last tournament. The Jefferson City, Tenn. native had a second and a third place finish in the fall.

GREENVILLE, SC - Freshman Neil O'Briain finished at even par through the three-round Furman Intercollegiate to guide the Wofford men's golf team to a fourth-place team result. O'Briain's 74-68-74--216 (E) placed him in third among the 99 individuals, 10 shots back of medalist Blaine Pefflex of Maryland. The Terrapins also claimed the team title.
As a team, the Terriers were 22-over par with rounds of 295-296-295--886, 19 shots off the Maryland pace. Chattanooga was second followed by Samford, Wofford and host Furman in the top five.
Senior Adam Dox, the tournament's first-round leader, ended the event tied for 25th after posting a 7-over par 69-74-80--223.
Sophomore Patrick Knott and senior Andrew Hewitt were both 1-under par Sunday. Knott tied for 40th overall with an 11-over par 79-77-71--227, while Hewitt tied for 48th after registering a 76-81-71--228 (+12).
Rounding out the Terrier team scorers was freshman Drew Perry with a 62nd-place tying 76-77-79--232 (+16).
Wofford's other two seniors, Marshall Swails and Richard Cox, participated in the event as individuals. Swails tied for 25th with a 7-over par 74-77-72--223, while Cox placed 96th with an 83-80-83--246 (+30).

GREENVILLE, SC ? Tim Dillon fired a 73 (+1) and posted a 54-hole total of 220 (+4) to place in a tie for 12th individually and the Davidson Wildcats climbed three spots in the team standings to a tie for ninth after shooting a 300 in the final round of the 37th Annual Furman Intercollegiate. The three-day tournament was played on the Par 72, 6,800-yard Furman University Golf Club layout.
Dillon, a senior from Greensboro, N.C., opened the tournament with a 73 and followed with a 74 en route to a season-best finish in the individual standings.
Despite firing back-to-back 84s, Davidson freshman Michael Saari posted the low Wildcat score this afternoon with a one-under 71. Steve Mayo, who also shot a 71 on day one, carded a final day 82 to finish in a tie for 59. Other Wildcat competitors included David Fowler (T62), Alex Knoll (T76) and Christian Davis (T90). Davis' score was not included with the team scoring as he was competing as an individual.
