ORLANDO, FL - Furman carded back to back rounds of 299 to finish in a tie for eighth at the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
Individually, the Paladins struggled to find consistency. Ben Goforth (75-72-77=224), following a first round 75 on Monday, scored an even par in round two, but faded with a final round 77 to finish in 28th. T.J. Blandford also fired an even par 72 in round two, but posted a 76 in round three to finish 32nd with a 226.
Sophomore Chris Gilliland recorded a one over 73 in the final round to pace the Paladins while Jonathan Bowden shot a two over 74.
Lamar University took team honors with a final round 288 to finish with a three round total of 877. Casey Clendenon notched individual honors on the strength of a three under 69 in the final round.

ORLANDO, FL ? A day after David Fowler led the Wildcats with an opening round 75, fellow freshman Michael Saari fired a 76 and two-under 70 in the final day of the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate to lead Davidson to a tie for 14th in its spring debut. The 54-hole event was played over two days on the 6,978-yard Rio Pinar Country Club layout and hosted by the University of Central Florida.
A freshman from Lilburn, Ga., Saari concluded his first 18 holes with a disappointing 80, but bounced back to finish in a tie for 32nd out of 90 competitors. The young Wildcat linkster concluded the event similar to the way he began his collegiate career at the Francis Marion Tournament (9/20/05) when he carded an opening round three-under 69.
Fowler and junior Alex Knoll concluded the first event of the spring season just one stroke back of Saari with a 54-hole total of 227, placing them in a tie for 38th in the individual standings.
After struggling in his opening two rounds, Tim Dillon, a 2005 All-Conference performer, finished with a one-under 71 to place tied for 57th. Junior Steve Mayo rounded out the Wildcat competitors with a 237 (81-80-76).
As a squad, Davidson finished in a tie for 14th with Nevada in the team standings, just seven strokes shy of a top-10 showing. Lamar University took top honors in the 18-school field recording a three round total of 877 (+13), seven shots better than Southern Mississippi.
Despite their 14th place showing, the Wildcats' final round 291 was the third lowest team score recorded in the entire tournament.

LAKELAND, FL - The Chattanooga golf team rebounded from a poor second round showing to card a final-round 302 and finish the Matlock Collegiate Classic tied for 11th place. The team total of 919 was 28 strokes behind host Florida Southern’s winning total.
Freshman Ben Rickett was the Mocs’ top finisher. His final-round 74 gave him a tie for 24th at 12-over par 228. Rickett finished 13 strokes behind medalist Greg Koch of Florida Southern. Tripp Harris and Scott Vick tied for 45th at 232.
The Mocs will be back in action February 27-28 at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at Hilton Head, S.C.
