Chattanooga names golf coach

Mark Guhne
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Mark Guhne has been named Head Golf Coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, UTC's Director of Athletics Steve Sloan announced Monday.

Guhne (pronounced JUNE) is the current assistant coach for the Mocs under Head Coach Reed Sanderlin, who is retiring following the 2004-05
season. Guhne's appointment is effective July 1.

"Mark is a good match for our program at this time in its history," Sloan said. "He has been very involved in the program and should be able to step right in without missing a beat."

Guhne began his coaching career at UTC on July 25, 2002. He has been extremely involved in recruiting, practices and tournament coaching.

"I am excited," Guhne said. "Coach Sanderlin has so many things in place, that all I have to do is take it and run with it. He has been so good to me. He has let me have a hand in all the phases of the program, and I am appreciative of him."

A golf professional, Guhne has earned his Class A status. He has served as the vice president of the Chattanooga District Golf Association and has coordinated many junior tournaments for the CDGA for several years. He competes in PGA Section and Chapter events and a limited number of mini-tour events each year.

In 2003 and 2004, Guhne was selected to represent Tennessee in the Tennessee vs. Georgia PGA Cup matches.

Guhne and his wife, Kelly, are both UTC graduates, earning their bachelor's degrees in 1984. Mark was a varsity wrestler while at UTC.
