Wake Forest, Haas Leads Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational After First Day

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Bill Haas came just two strokes shy of tying a
tournament 36-hole record with a 12-under 132 and missed the single round
standard by one shot to guide Wake Forest into the lead Saturday after two
rounds of the 2004 Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational.

The 54-hole tournament will conclude Sunday at the par-72, 6,945-yard
Forest Heights Country Club.

Haas, who will enter the final day with a six-shot lead over Georgia's
Chris Kirk, carded a 68 during the opening 18 holes before turning in a 64
in the second round - one stroke less than the Schenkel record of 63 set
most recently by Wake Forest's Chris Kite in 1986. Kite also holds the
tourney's top 36-hole score, shooting a 130 during the same event.

The Demon Deacons finished the first round with a one-under 287 and
completed the second round with a six-under 282 to stand at 569, one shot
ahead of second-place Florida (280-290=570) and two strokes better than
third-place Duke (285-286=571).

Individually, Florida's Matt Every carded a two-round five-under total of
139 to stand third while Augusta State's Major Manning, North Carolina's
Martin Ureta and Duke's Alex Wilson are currently tied for fourth with 140
scores.

Host Georgia Southern shot a seven-over par 583 (295-288) and finished the
first two rounds in 11th place. Among individuals, Kurt Watkins is 11th
with a 142 (72-70) while Aron Price stands 17th (143), Toshi Hirata 32nd
(146), Jon David Kennedy 63rd (152) and Bryan Jones 73rd (158).
