Men's Golf 10/25/2004 2:32:00 PM Southern Conference SoCon Men's Golf for October 25th BATON ROUGE, La.-Georgia Southern tallied a two-round total of 559 (-17)to complete the first day of competition at the University ClubIntercollegiate, being held at The University Golf Club, tied for third.The Eagles were six-under par with a 282 in Monday's morning roundbefore firing an 11-under 277 to jump from sixth to third overall. Freshman David Palm led the way for Georgia Southern, completing thetwo rounds at 136 (-8) to stand one shot behind leaders Will Dodson fromSMU and Chris Wells from host LSU. Palm opened the day with a 67 (-5)and shot a 69 (-3) in the afternoon round and is tied for third overall.Junior Jon David Kennedy is four shots behind Palm and tied for 16thwith a four-under 140. Kennedy shot 70 in both rounds Monday. Meanwhile,senior Kurt Watkins also finished the day in the top 20, standing tiedfor 20th with a 141 (-3). Watkins shot a 75 (+3) in the morning round,the highest round by any Eagle on the day, but fired a 66 (-6) in thesecond round, the second-lowest score by any player on the day. Senior Aron Price is tied for 40th overall after firing even-par 72 inboth rounds Monday, recording a 144 on the day, while junior Drew Bowenis tied for 56th at three-over with a total of 147. Bowen shot a 73 (+1)in the morning round before finishing with a 74 (+2). Georgia Southern and the rest of the 14-team field finish thetournament with a single round Tuesday morning. Bowen will lead theEagles off with a 9:20 tee time, followed by Price at 9:28, Watkins at9:36, Kennedy at 9:44 and Palm at 9:52.
